snow ice cream

Kats morning post about getting some snow made me think about snow ice cream. We live in Mississippi so snow is very few and far between. The few times we have had snow my grandmother always makes snow ice cream. Jordan loves it he is having his tonsils out in 2 weeks and he said thats what he wants to eat. Of course it will not snow here before then so he is having regular ice cream.

Do you that get snow ever make snow ice cream? If so how do you do it?

Re: snow ice cream

  • We did/do.  As kids my sister, dad and I would always trek out into the yard to gather snow and icicles from the house to make it with.  We would then add milk and vanilla extract (I think, I can't remember that far back), and he had an OLD, and I mean OLD ice cream maker.  (it was basically a bucket, with a small hole on the side, and then a mixer attachment).  All I remember is that it was Yummy, and I looked forward to it every year.

  • Never heard of it, and I've always lived in places with tons of snow. I'm intrigued.

  • We made it when I lived in Colorado as a kid...

I'm fairly certain we used sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract, but I'll have to ask mom to be sure... Oh the memories!
