Mom vent--we all got 'em

Being a flake is one of my biggest pet peeves ever.  My mom is unfortunately a big ole flake.  She just called and said she's not coming up this weekend an hour after she was supposed to already be on the road.  No reason.  Just doesn't feel like it.  This is after she called me 3 hours ago to get my address and tell me how excited she was to come up and help set up the nursery/shop/etc.

WTF mom? She tried to make a date to come up another weekend and then got upset when our schedules didn't mesh. We're both pretty much booked up every weekend until Christmas--not waiting that long to set up the nursery. Confused

Re: Mom vent--we all got 'em

  • Ugh that sucks. My mom has been great lately so I can't really vent but it does bug me when she eats like crap and then claims its not that bad for her, "the quesadilla has barely any calories if they don't butter the tortilla before cooking it"...um, what?!

My stepmom does the exact same thing--she puts a pound of sugar in her sweet tea or eats a bowl of ice cream every night and then wonders why her blood sugar spikes (she's diabetic).

  • I have to say that when I'm overseas my mom and I get along beautifully. After I'm home for a week or so we bicker over little things, but there are no major issues that repeatedly come up. Having said that, she ticked me off the other day when I wrote because LO has a cold and thinks the nose bulb thing is about the equivalent of electro-shock therapy. I wrote Mom that I was thinking about getting a Nosefrida because I had heard rave reviews even though they sound disgusting. She wrote back with a whole paragraph of how disgusting that concept is, how she was glad when Dad read the email she was done eating dinner, how when they told my aunt and uncle they were also grossed out, etc, etc, etc. I didn't respond but just thought, come on, Mom, grow up. You can say you wouldn't do it, but when it takes me 10 min to suck the snot out of my screaming child's nose with the bulb, you can't blame me for considering other options.

  • Ah, Shekels, I'm sorry. That really sucks. Getting ready for your first baby is certainly a time where she should have held it together and helped you. I'm sure your nursery will be wonderful and a lovely, happy spot for your LO.

My mom told an old schoolmate that I was coming in to town and that I would just love to see her. Haven't seen this old schoolmate since we ended ninth grade! Mom didn't ask me ahead of time or give me any warning. Between the wedding, the family events, and the few (good) friends I had already made plans or phone dates with I didn't have any spare time. Then my mom tried to guilt trip me saying that my old schoolmate professionally is very sick. She bugged me about it at least twice a day.

I told her that I didn't have any time, what little time wasn't with the family I already had commitments for, and that I didn't appreciate her trying to make plans for me considering there were many other actual friends in the area I wasn't going be able to see at all. My mom was in ultra dense mode. Could practically see my words bouncing off of her with no comprehension.
