Painting advise

So DH and I get the keys to our house on Thursday and probably won't get a chance to go to the house together until Friday evening. We plan to start painting next Saturday. We have discussed paint colours and have to come to somewhat of a decision. Should I get the paint tinted this week, or should I wait until I can hold up the paint chip in the room that we're painting. If I wait to get it tinted, it will delay the painting process and we'd like the get all the painting done in one week so we can move in. WWYD?

Re: Painting advise

  • In my experience if you can get small sample sizes of the colors you like and paint a 12 inch square on the wall it gives you a better idea of what the color will look like dry.

At the same time if you are really sure that the colors you have chosen aren't going to be to dark on the walls I say sure go get the paint tinted. You just don't want to do that if you don't know if you are going to like the colors on the walls because then you'll be stuck with pails of paint that you won't know what to do with them.

  • I agree with Alise... a little extra time in making sure the paint colors will work will be worth it in the long run just in case it totally doesn't work and you end up buying all that paint....
  • We repainted our whole house when I moved in, that being said, I'd definitely wait until you get to the house and hold up the samples, or if you can get the small sample cans. Colors dry differently than they look on the sample and in different lights. I chose a gray color for our bedroom and on the chip it looked like a neutral silvery gray, and it definitely dried differently and in certain lights now it looks bluish/purpley, I wish I had bought a small sample can. After that we always bought the samples for a couple bucks and tested them first.

  • Ditto on the sample cans, they have made me completely change my mind on colors.
