Hey royal watchers- Succession law changed

Have you seen this?

The UK and the 16 commonwealth countries that have the Brittish monarch as their head of state voted unanimously to change the succession laws.  Now the first born child, regarless of sex, will inherit the monarchy.  They also removed the prohibition about marrying catholics.

  • Interesting!

I still get sort of squealy when I see that pic of them on their wedding day. She is so beautiful.

  • When they were on the Canadian tour I remember seeing an article that indicated some reluctance to try and change the succession law.  Apparently some of the Common Wealth countries are becoming more anti-monarchy.  The writer thought it could become a referendum on the monarchy itself and said the palace might be afraid to rock the boat.  (I am pretty sure it was a Times of India article.)

On another note, do you think they'll try to put off having kids until after the Queen's Jubilee next year?

  • I had heard on NPR that they were trying to do this.

  • I had no idea but I haven't been watching the news lately..... I think it's pretty cool!!  I def think they will wait to have children until after they have moved to London.  With him in the military, training, traveling, etc, I just don't see them having kids yet but we'll have to wait and see.

  • I thought I read somewhere that they put off getting engaged/married until they were ready for kids.  Part of their job as a married couple is to produce an heir, so once the vows are said, the pressure is on.  Obviously there are still 2 people ahead in line to inherit the throne, so its not as pressing as it used to be.  But they were "older" when they got married, sooo yeah.

Ditto this- they dated forever, and were essentially "secretly engaged" or engaged to be engaged for quite a while. I imagine the Queen would be thrilled to have a great-grand child present or on the way for her Jubilee.

  • I also think the new Phillips baby will add some pressure.   BUT Kate said in Canada that William has some deployment scheduled this winter where he will be gone for several weeks (maybe a few months?).  So in my mind they are waiting until after that.

I also think they know once there is a baby - and heir to the throne - there will be pressure to be full time royals which is something I think William is delaying.
