East Coast Nesties....

Stay safe and warm in the storm! I hope if you have lost power you have a way to keep heat going!

Re: East Coast Nesties....

  • We made it through and as of now we still have power. It was really bad and got bad fast. Here is a pic of outage map black means 100% without power. Fortunatly my town  is less then thirty better then 100 in irene.

  • We are lucky too and still have power. The outages are more than Irene and they are saying it may be more than a week. My parents are out, but they heat with wood and coal so they are toasty.

I hear branches going though, so who knows how it'll be when it is all said and done. I live in the "city" (Alycia will understand the quotes), but not a ton of trees so I think that is one reason we are okay. Also, we did not get nearly as much snow as surrounding towns.

Those of you on Facebook probably saw our scary driving experience yesterday -- thinking since the roads were clear here they would be one or two towns over -- yeah, not so much. Roads were fine when we came home though.

I'm not sure about school for tomorrow -- I think we are okay to go here, but daycare might be closed and lots of teachers will have problems getting in.

  • Where we are, we lucked out...but about 10 miles away, they all lost power, so we are very thankful for that 10 miles!  Snowtober = ridiculous!
  • We're good here. We just got back from church and they were saying that large sections of town had no power, but we do. There are a lot of branches and trees down... I'm not sure how they managed to avoid all our powerlines, but I'm thankful.

We were under the impression that the storm was supposed to hit overnight more than during the day yesterday. We went up to my parents for a few hours and had a hell of a time getting home. I've never seen the roads so bad.

  • We got nothing here besides rain. I guess being close to the shore helped out for once! I see all the pictures from around the state of snow and power outages, but we missed all the excitement here.

  • We have had no power since about 5:00 yesterday.  We stayed home last night, but decided to pack up and head to the in laws this morning since they are predicting that we will have no power for a few days.

On top of that I slipped this morning and twisted my ankle pretty badly.  Luckily I wasn't holding the baby when it happened.

  • It didn't start snowing until after 10pm last night here.  We only got a few inches in my city (thank God b/c they were predicting 10+" and my friends 2 hours south got over a foot of snow) and it's already starting to melt.  It kind of has me in the mood for Christmas though LOL

  • I am so jealous!!! Our friend's orchard in Pittsfield, MA got 20 inches yesterday!

We just "winterized" our gardens....in tank tops. I am completely ready for snow and hot chocolate.

  • Don't be jealous. The damage is pretty intense because of leaves still being on the trees. DH and my dad spent over 2 hours basically cutting their way up my 91 year old great aunt's driveway to get her out of the freezing house. They say it will be WEEKS for some people before power is restored. The damage is just starting because now pipes will freeze and burst, flooding, ice, etc. Not a good situation.

  • In CT they are saying there is 5X more tree damage then with Irene and most power outages ever!

  • Hope everyone is staying safe! And Maria - your new siggy picture slays me! I LOVELOVELOVE how excited she looks!
  • Glad to hear everyone is safe! The snow was beautiful on Saturday, but wreaked a lot of havoc in this area. We got probably 6-8", and never lost power, but there are hundreds of thousands in our county and neighboring counties without power, including my FIL who stayed with us last night.

  • We didn't lose power (thankfull) but we have tons of down trees. I'm not too crazy about having snow in October though!
