Job refusal etiquette?
I just received an offer from Aviva in West Des Moines, significantly higher pay than Wells and starts sooner. I accepted the offer and now have to inform Wells that I'm not taking their position.
Has this happened to anyone and how did you inform the company??
Info: I interviewed on Monday for Aviva, was offered the Wells Job on Tuesday and accepted because of the location. Aviva offer came today, negotiated my pay expectation and met it. So I accepted Aviva.
I know this is extremely unprofessional but I'm taking the higher paying job because we need the money more than the convenience of location.

Thank you so much! Reading this made me feel a lot better. I've been debating with myself since accepting the position, as to whether or not I made the right choice.
This was exactly what I was going to say. Be honest and say that another company offered you a position that better suited your needs and desires. They may offer you more salary if they are really interested in keeping you as a future hire. At best it gives you some negotiating room on salary, at worst they will say they can't negotiate and you go to Aviva, either way you get a new job and you're still showing integrity.
I agree with Mrs. Reem - I would also echo the fact that they could potentially match your Aviva offer.
Just adding some things to think about in terms of pay - are you considering the gas needed to drive to the Aviva location, travel in the winter and factoring in benefits (if that's applicable)? Benefits/401K...etc can add a signicant amount of money/value to a salary. Just my 2 cents
I think you'll be happy wherever you end up working - and their certainly lucky to have you!
