Confession...

After I got the promotion to store manager, I decided I didn't want to clean my house anymore.  I hired a maid to come every two weeks. She starts tomorrow... Does that make me lazy?  I used to enjoy cleaning, but I've been so wiped that it's not fun anymore and coming home to a messy house makes me crazy!

You're mine. :)  Also, I could also confess that I'd rather be on Pinterest than cleaning. Damnyoupinterest!!!

  • Not lazy... hey, you gotta do what makes you happy. If you can afford it and it leaves you the time to do something you enjoy, then more power to ya! I read a great blog post once (was it posted here?) saying that we shouldn't feel anymore guilty for hiring a maid than we would for going out to eat - they're essentially the same thing, outsourcing a task you COULD do yourself but would rather not. :)

  • Ha! That's funny, because when we were discussing it, I rationalized that I'd rather not eat out as much to budget for it.  I'd much rather cook than clean at this point, especially since cooking at home is oftentimes healthier! :)

  • I love everything about this post. I really, really want to hire a maid to come and deep clean every 2 weeks.
  • Aunt B, I would love to do that. I think that leaves you more time to cook and have fun.

  • I totally wish I could higher one.  C and I are pretty tired when we get home too, and with homework, cleaning is the last thing I want to do. Enjoy your maid!

  • Not lazy. I wish I could hire a maid. Since having the boys I have forgotten what my house looks like when I really clean and not just a quick pick up.

  • I've had one coming every two weeks for over a year now.  It is the best money I spend all month.  I detest cleaning, so it is totally worth it to me.  The only time I feel guilty about it is in the summer when I am not working and actually have to leave and find something to do so they can clean my house.  But, if we cancelled for the summer, they just charge more for the first cleaning back, so I don't really save any money...(at least that is how I justify it....)

  • Then I guess I would be lazy too.  We've had one ever since we moved in together about 5 years, and it was one of the first things we looked into when we moved to London.  She comes every two weeks, does a deep clean and the laundry. I love it.  If you can afford it, go for it, and enjoy your free time!

  • Not lazy.  DH and I have discussed it and we will likely hire one after baby.

  • This has definitely been something that we've discussed. We're both busy and I'd much rather enjoy my free time at home than spend it cleaning the house. We will make it happen some day.
  • I wouldn't feel guilty about it. I think that women who are professionals now a days just don't have as much time as they wish to do cleaning. Like everyone else said if you can afford it, go for it.

I know DH and I have discussed this too and we agreed that once we both start working full time and have kids we are gonna have to hire a housekeeper to help witht the cleaning.

  • I don't work outside of home and I want to hire a full time maid/nanny. No matter how much I clean it's just never enough. I'm lucky if I clean for 6 hours a day and my house stays that way for 45 minutes.
  • Not lazy.

I had a cleaning lady when my daughters were little and I could afford it.  At first I felt guilty that someone else was cleaning my house, but then I realized it was money well spent, and it made me happy and relieved some of the stress.

I say it's a good thing, and don't feel guilty or lazy about hiring someone.

  • You shouldn't feel lazy, and you sure as hell shouldn't feel guilty either! What a blessing to be able to have someone do work that gives you more free time!
