What brand of dog food do you feed your dog?

We currently were feeding him Taste of the Wild but it's expensive and he seems to go through it pretty quick. We got a bunch of Beneful sample bags given to us so I've been giving it to our lab and he seems to really like it. I'm not really thrilled about what's in it compared to TOTW but just wondering how much people really put much thought/concern into their dog's food (besides Tera of course, LOL).

  • Natures Recipie, Farm Stand Selects. Its like 52 bucks for a 28lb bag that last alittle over a month. We give him the rec. amt from the back of the bag. He has allergies (Atleast thats what the vet has told us) and we have to stay away from beef, chicken, wheat, and corn. SO....this is where we ended up. It has dried veggies in it...you can see them..its kinda weird but he likes it and we have had NO problems anymore on it.

  • Innova (small bites, red meat).  He really likes it and it's not that expensive (IMO).  We've gone through one 6 lb bag and half of one 15 lb bag in the 2 months we've had him.
    * DS1...allergic to dairy, peanuts, eggs and turkey *

  • NutroMax, a large bag costs $30 and lasts for maybe 3 months?

  • Blue Buffalo small breed.  It's $30 for 15lbs which lasts them quite awhile (but we have small dogs who weigh like 14lbs max each).

  • Pure Vita Grain-Free turkey & sweet potato.  It's $50 for a 25# bag, but totally worth it.  Their coats are so much healthier, less shedding, they're more energetic, and their poops are smaller.  Foods like Beneful are full of grains (which are just fillers and can cause a lot of allergen issues), resulting in tons of poop, shedding, etc.

I used to feed cheaper stuff until we found out we have Celiac.  Any dog food that isn't grain-free has gluten in it.  All it takes is for the dog to eat, then lick our hands, face, etc. and we'd get sick. Now, even if we didn't have the gluten issue I wouldn't switch back; my dogs are so much healthier!

  • We feed our dogs Kirkland brand (the maroon colored bag). Before that we were using some stuff, can't remember the name, that we could only buy from a feed store.... that got expensive even with their buy 4 bags get 1 free deal. It was one that was rated better, I think that one website rated it a 4 out of 5. My one dog didn't tolerate it very well, and once we started going to Costco we decided to make the switch for money reasons mainly, and because I knew he needed a change. I think it's rated 3 out of 5, obviously not the best, but not terrible and for the price you can't beat it. I think it's $24 for a 40lb bag? He does much better on it than the others we've tried.

  • Nutro (we use large breed brand) its about $40 for a 25 lb bag that lasts our 100 lb lab around a month but is well worth it due to her coat being in amazing good shape (still sheds of course but very shiny/healthy) and her teeth are in very good condition as well.  After going through puppy training 3 years ago and hearing what they all put in the cheap foods it was pretty disgusting, so we went with a more expensive brand, which does kind of suck but is worth it.
  • California (somthing or other).  We buy it at NW Grain and Feed.  It only has a couple of ingredients and is cheaper than the Science Diet we had him on for years.  We switched because of his health issues.  The cat likes the new food, we are constantly shooing him away from the doggie bowl.
  • Blue Buffalo Small Breed. My dog loves it.

He was on Royal Canin when I got him but it was too pricey and he ate so much of it. I buy the huge bag now and it lasts a long time.

  • Both of our dogs have allergy issues. One gets a Kent feed dog food that is on her "approved" list after her allergy testing (you would have to buy this at a feed store, but it lasts a long time). The other gets TOTW Pacific Stream because it is about the only food that he can eat. One thing to check on the TOTW is are you feeding the correct amount. My dog only gets a 1/4 cup 2x a day. It doesn't look like much food, but it is the correct amount for his size/weight and he isn't loosing or gaining weight.
  • Pedigree Small Breed --- we've tried others and she won't eat it. So, until that changes or the vet tells us otherwise... that works for me :)

  • We use Science Diet -- it's what they were on when we got them. We tried to switch them to Beneful and one other brand once and Max's stomach couldn't handle it.
