Automatic Thermostat

Saw this thermosat on pinterest. Love the idea, just not a fan of the price ($250). We don't have an automatic thermostat yet and I'm constantly debating if we should get one.

I've seen this online before and while I think it is cool, I think that the price is ridiculous. We have a standard programmable thermostat that was around $50. It is programmed for the days of the week and to go up and down at certain times. In all reality it takes a long time for a small change in temp and I think that the nest is a bit ridiculous. I think that your heater would constantly be running trying to keep up with a static temperature.

We don't have that one in particular but we do have automatic thermostats both upstairs and down. We just had to replace the downstairs thermostat and now we can access it via the web and an app... change the temperature, turn it off or on. It's pretty sweet... so I recommend an automatic thermostat - but you don't have to spend $250 on one.

Those are super cool but you don't have to do something that extreme. You can spend $40 and get one that has various day functions so you can program to your schedules. They make a major difference because it takes action out of the equation once it's scheduled.

You can get one for around $100 that has wi-fi access so you can then program it from your smartphone, but I constantly tell people the $40 ones are enough as long as they take the time to program them.

Agreed that it's very cool, but yeah--a programmable thermostat can be had for as little as $40. We replaced our standard thermostats in both our condo and our house with inexpensive programmable ones and they've been just fine for us.

If you want to get fancy, there is one available from Filtrete that has WiFi capabilities, meaning that it can be adjusted from off-site. It's like $90.

$250 is outrageous.

Yea, I don't get it. I like gadgets as much as the next gal but..meh. It says it 'learns every time you turn the ring'. Well with my regular FREE programmable thermostat installed by our oil company I programmed it once and I never really touch it. I only override it on days like today when it's set to go down like we'll be out...but I'm actually home.

We have a cheap programmable. DH was able to install it easily (and he is not a handyman by any means). It's great, although not as necessary since I SAH now.
