Crockpot Question

I've just started using the Crockpot I received for my wedding and everytime I use it, no matter what temp or time I set it to, I get burning around the edges.  The food itself does not burn, but it is just a pain to clean up.  Am I doing something wrong?  Any suggestions?  TIA!

  • Maybe try spraying it with PAM? Not sure though...

    I was a HUGE fan of the crockpot liners but Martin doesn't like the idea of "cooking" the food in the plastic...Being he is the one that cleans the crockpot though we don't use them anymore...

    This. For some reason cooking in plastic liners freaks me out. 

    I don't have any suggestions for you other than PAM, which Tracy just said. Mine doesn't burn or stick like that so I'm not sure. Sorry.

  • Thanks!  I was also thinking PAM myself.  I am not sure if it is because it is new and I haven't figured this one out yet, but we shall see.  If it keeps it up, maybe I just have a defective one that gets too hot or cooks too fast.

  • Fill crockpot with water, add baking soda. Cook on high 1 to 2 hours.
  • I think he feels that the toxins in the plastic will get into the food. He will also not microwave any food in plastic containers or use plastic wrap in the microwave...

    I live with one of these as well, although he will microwave in plastic on occasion. I get it and respect it and support it wholeheartedly but Im just not as alarmist about it as he is. For the crockpot, I agree with using pam which has helped with clean up tremendously since I started using it.

    Also, I know you probably dont want to hear this, but it could be the pot. I followed crockpot recipes exactly and surprisingly burned things all the time and my coworker had the same issue. We both ditched our old pots and got the same new pot and neither of us have had any of those issues again.     yes my old one was the crockpot brand but I cant remember much else about it, other than the fact that it was far more expensive than my new one! I think the lid didnt stay nicely sealed which could have been part of my issue bc when I was home and had it on, it seemed like a lot of the steam escaped the pot. That or Im a cooking bimbo which is highly likely!

    This is me. I never microwave plastic at all and would not use the liners. I will chill my food or bring it to room temp before I put it in Tupperware, too. I'm also moving away from using my non-stick items or putting parchment paper down when baking on cookie sheets.  All of my other cooking items are cast iron, ceramic or pyrex.

    OCD? Maybe.  Hmm

    eta: the baking soda suggestion works, too. Except I don't usually turn on the crock pot again. When we sit down to dinner, I soak the crockpot in the baking soda/water mixture. By the time the dinner is cleaned up and the d/w is loaded, the stuff in the crock pot comes off fairly easily.
