Getting wisdom teeth out Wednesday- when can I do stuff?
First I'm skeeeeered. I don't care what the extremely attractive oral surgeon guy says, this is a VERY big deal to me.
Now, assuming I don't Michael Jackson die from the anesthesia, I'm not at all worried about the recovery. I'm taking Wed-Fri off work (duh) and sending the boys to daycare (double duh), but I'm curious what I can do with three whole days all to myself.
Like, can I go get a haircut on Friday? Can I make dinner? (Even though I don't plan on eating it.) Clean out our closets? Go for a walk?
I know complications can make things a billion times worse, but I'm just trying to plan out the rest of my week.
TIA. Fingers crossed I don't croke!

Re: Getting wisdom teeth out Wednesday- when can I do stuff?
The surgery is super easy. I think it took 30 minutes? I actually don't remember even going home. My surgery was on a Wednesday. I slept all day and most of Thursday. Friday I stopped taking the drugs because they were making me sick and was up and about that day and all weekend. Everyone reacts different. I heard some people say they went out that night. Maybe it was the drugs but I was too tired to do anything but wasn't in pain. I was really swollen. And I ended up getting a dry socket but that didn't stop me from going out, just had to go back in for more medicine.
I think you could go walking or get a haircut on Friday but be prepared to be swollen but wasn't a huge deal. I actually went shopping b/c it was around the holidays.
I remembered being pretty laid up on the day they were done, but since that was before a kid, I just drugged myself and slept. I was much better the following days and in the days after. I did get a dry socket (Holy Mary!) the next week and THAT sucked, but I know that's not typical.
There. You feel better? Now, make ME feel better about this damn scheduled c-section, will ya?
Good luck! It will be totally fine, though.
So, here's my two cents. I am PETRIFIED of the dentist etc. and was scared to death to have mine out. It turned out to be the easiest no brainer ever. I went home after the surgery with a smoothie from Juice Stop and a bottle of water, and laid down for the afternoon. By evening, I was groggy but watching movies with DH. By the next morning, I was totally fine and out shopping...just not eating and not drinking anything out a straw of course. I was scared to death of dry socket.
My pain was minimal, and I was healed pretty quickly. Good luck!
Niki, get a hold of yourself! I'm LOL that you took three days off work.
You'll be fine. I'm the biggest chicken ever, and it's truly no big deal. You'll be sore for a couple days but you'll have plenty of pain meds, and if you take them correctly you shouldnt feel a thing.
RELAX!
I had mine taken out a year and a half ago. It wasnt bad at all. I wasnt in pain, and I even went out with family that night for dinner (I didnt eat though -- because I was terrified to get anything solid stuck in the "holes").
If your teeth are not too impacted you should be just fine. I highly suggest taking a tea bag and get it wet and put it over the area where your teeth were pulled. I did this, and was told to and I think it made a big difference!
Good luck!
Thanks, ladies. This is making me feel much better. (Even more so that I can tell my mother that, no, she does not need to come over to take care of me.)
And yes, Amy, I'm being crazy dramatic about this. Shocking, I know.
The cutie doctor was all, "did the nurse talk to you about potential complications?" I responded, "she said dry sockets and pain but WHAT ABOUT DEATH?!?" Yeaaaaah. I'm going to be a handful.
And Jennie, scheduled c/s all the way! It's all so organized and efficient. Plus, you don't crap yourself. Weeeee. You'll do great!
yeah budddyyy
Mine sucked, but I always get sick from anethesia and threw up blood all the way home (1.5 hr car ride...yay living in podunk) which is super fun with stitches.
Mine were impacted though, so I'm sure the extraction was worse than most.
My dude told me to NOT drink from a straw. The sucking action can dislodge the clots formed in the wounds and that can lead to dry socket.
Lots of luck!
I was a high school senior. I got them taken out in the afternoon, took the 1 dose of naproxen they gave me there, and went out drinking with my equally stupid HS friends that night.
Hope it is easy peasy for you. Clearly it was (too) easy for me, I should have had some sort of negative consequences!
