I can't believe I'm posting this...re: the Twilight series.

I've never read any of the Twilight books and had only seen the first movie when it came out on DVD a few years ago. I'm going out with the girls to see Breaking Dawn part 1 the Friday it comes out (and then to a wine bar after). Even though I hadn't been 'into' Twilight, I'm stoked at the idea of a GNO!

So, my co-worker loaned me the three movies. I've watched the first one and New Moon. I'll watch Eclipse this weekend probably.

Here's my question...should I try to read Breaking Dawn before I see the movie? Part of me wants to so that I know how the series will end since the movies are being split up. On the other hand, there's no way I can read ALL the Twilight books before I see Breaking Dawn. It'll be pushing it to read that book before then too.

Suggestions?

  • Since you haven't read any of the books I wouldn't bother reading #4 before seeing the movie.  There is a lot more in the books that might confuse you more that they leave out of the movies.

Now I'm a twilight lover so I'd recommend reading all the books!

  • The movies pretty much follow the books.  Of course there's things left out but they are still decent portrayals (even though the acting sucks).  You can definitely read all the books before the movie comes out, you just have to dedicate a weekend to it and you will get sucked right in.  Big Smile  That may be difficult with a little one though.

If I were you I would just watch the movie and then read the books after.  It's not as fun if you jump to the end of the series without having read the other books even if the movie is similar.  Oh also, there's going to be two parts to Breaking Dawn.  The second part will be released next year.

Ditto. I wouldn't bother reading just Breaking Dawn before the movie if you don't have time to read all the books.

They aren't the greatest pieces of literature, but I also recommend reading them all when you have time. Like Kasi said, you get sucked in pretty easily.

I'm really excited about this movie. We always go a girls' night to see them, too.

  • Thanks ladies! I was a little worried about the possibility of trying to read an entire book in the next few weeks, which I know sounds odd to some of you. But between Brody and getting housework/homework done, I have maybe 30 minutes a day of "me" time.

Looks like I'll add reading the Twilight series to my growing list of things I want to do when I graduate from college and have more time on my hands! Smile

When I was in school I had no time to read!  I totally get it.  I always felt guilty reading for pleasure when I should be reading a textbook.  After I graduated my reading skyrocketed.  Last year (while in school) I read a total of 4 or 5 books but this year I am almost at 50.

Totally agree. It's hard to read for fun when you have school work to do. Once you're finished, you'll have more time and more desire to read fun things.
