S/O: What time does trick or treating start?

DD usually goes down about 7:15ish, so I'd like to start taking her around about 6:15 or 6:30 so we can make sure to get her home in time for a bath and bedtime. Is that too early? I have no memory of when people start walking around.

Also, I intend to just leave candy outside for people because I can't have the doorbell ringing all night or DD will be a mess! I'm sort of sad because we don't get many kids, and I really want to see them in their costumes!

  • I've never seen formal times announced for ToTing, at least in Arlington.  I doubt there will be many people who aren't parents of little ones ready with candy at 6:15, which is why we're not even going to try.  I don't usually see kids out 'til closer to 7.

  • That sounds about right to me - in our neighborhood, the kids usually come out as soon as it starts getting dark, but we rarely get any past 7:30 or so.

By the way, I noticed your ticker a couple weeks agon and have been meaning to congratulate you on #2!  That's fantastic Big Smile

  • We're planning to go out around 6:00. I hope our neighbors will be home from work by then!

We don't get many ToTers, but I'm thinking of putting a note on our door after M goes to sleep, asking people to knock instead of ringing the doorbell. And we'll put out a bowl of candy while we're out ToTing.

  • I think as soon as it gets dark it's fine to start trick or treating.  I've tried looking for official times before too and not found them

According to kensington.patch, ToTing is 430-10.  Which makes no sense to me.  Who goes ToTing at 430 in the afternoon?

Buut back to op - I think that time is fine.  We usually see kids around 630.

  • Late to the post, but our town's hours are only 5-7 PM! I still had a lot of leftover candy so I kept my light on till 7:30. I would've kept it on later but I felt bad keeping the cats locked upstairs for too much longer.
