IUD users come in

Background:  had paraguard inserted 4 months ago or so.  No issues other than maybe my period coming a few days earlier every month.  No big deal.

All week, I've felt so off.  Cramping, bloat, just big fat blah.  Period started on the 19th of last month so by mid week I started freaking out that something was wrong, could be pregnant, just something... but I couldn't put my finger on it (no pun intended) until I checked my strings yesterday and they were only about 1/2 away from being completely out.  Called gyno. She got me in and was able to tell me that it was still in the correct position but lower than usual.  She didn't have the correct "tools" to remove it but was able to able to do it manually (OW!).  They did a pregnancy test that came back negative.

So... here are my questions

1) Anyone else ever have one drop/fall out?  Any insights on as to why?  (only thing that I've been doing this month vs not last month is working out)

2) if you answered yes to the 1st question, did you opt to try the IUD again or just go straight for another method?

3) with my period being 9 days later than last month as of today and no where in sight, how accurate is that pregnancy test?  Should I retest in the morning?

Slightly freaking out over here!

Re: IUD users come in

  • I've heard of IUDs falling out or being "rejected." I have no idea how likely it is to happen again. I think you need to ask your ob/gyn about that.

I'd retest just for peace of mind.

  • I had one several years ago. It partially expelled after 10 months. We moved to FAM after that and then started TTC. After LO was born, I wanted to get Paragard again, but my OB said it is now contraindicated for me since it expelled. I disagree with him on that (among many other things) but I haven't had a chance to find a new OB/GYN to get a second opinion.

It doesn't hurt to POAS again, though stress from this whole situation might be messing with your cycle, too.
