would you call Occupy Wall Street "anti-capitalist"/ "anti-capitalism"

Re: would you call Occupy Wall Street "anti-capitalist"/ "anti-capitalism"

  • Not necessarily, but I would call it disorganized.

There are so many different people protesting for different reasons and there does not seem to be any clear agenda. As a result, I have a hard time of knowing *what* to think...

    HAHA - yeah, right.

I saw Fox refer to them as anti-capitalist and it made me think about it.  IMO they are anti-hyper income inequality, but I'm not sure if that makes them anti-capitalism.  I feel like I'm against the income inequality, but I'm still in favor of profit and the profit motive, etc.

  • No, I don't think so - sure, maybe some protesters are, but overall I think they're just in favor of changes to the current system.

  • Just responded to this on FB: I don't think they are anti-capitalist. They are anti-corporate greed (a couple small examples: layoffs while profitable or repeatedly hiring temps at lower pay rather than creating positions to avoid giving benefits, etc.) and dislike corporate influence over policy-making. Corporate lobbyists have more access and influence than the Average Joe. The movement is kind of free flowing and captures a lot of gripes with society, so it seems disorganized, but basically I gather that people are pretty unhappy that for the first time, our kids in general will have it worse off than we did.
