I think I have, in the past, vented on here regarding James's family. I feel like our relationship is minimal at this point. We don't have a lot to spend on Christmas gifts, and (as mean as this sounds), they aren't high on the priority list. BUT, in the spirit of the holidays and attempting to keep some line open for the future, I would like to send something to them for Christmas.
With that being said, James and I have decided that we are going to just pick up one of those gift set type things that they have at Target and such. So, if you HAD to choose one of those type things, what would you prefer? I know most people wouldn't prefer something like this, but I have seen some neat things here and there - none that I can think of off hand.
So, any ideas? I'm thinking $35 or less.
ETA: This is for each of James's sisters: both late 20s.

It's the thought that counts.
Do they drink? Do you know what they like?
Last year Target had sets that had flavored salts for the rims of margaritas and a few different types of stuff. I sent one of those and a fried loved it.
I'd be more inclined to send something edible - but really even the random bath sets I get on occasion eventually get used.
This. I'll use a gift card. I won't use a bath set (I'm very picky about scents!), and most food gift-baskets around here end up having a few bites taken out of 'em and the rest left alone to go bad and eventually be thrown out guiltily several months later.
I understand the pp saying they want gift cards, but if I was sending something to people I didn't like *that* much, I wouldn't send them a gift card (ok, call me spiteful).
I don't know what Target ones you're talking about, but the gift basket things that I've had and liked (extended family sent different kinds to my parents each year): coffee theme, chocolate theme or the infamous popcorn with various flavors. I love all of those! And, those a) don't go bad quickly and b) can be put out for guests in case the recipient doesn't like parts of it that much.

I would keep an eye on living social deals... Things like mani/pedis and wine tastings (there is a wine tasting one right now for 35 bucks) are great gifts.
That being said, if you are determind to do a gift basket style thing, I would probably get one from Sephora or BBB... Even if they will be smaller because they are more expensive, they are better quality items and will probably be more appreciated.
these are much better ideas. i thought you were talking about the standard "junk" gifts you find in the center of the jcpenny. the chargers, tie racks, coin counters, etc lol.
i'd much rather get lotion as a generic gift.
