Monday Moans

OK- I am starting this off today- since it is 2:40 am and I am wide awake.  NOT cool...

So my Monday Moan will be that I will probably barely sleep. This never happens to me.  I have no idea how people with insomnia function, I know I will be dead tomorrow. I think I will call in sick for the first time in 1.5 years tomorrow (or work from home, since I am doing some of my work now).

Re: Monday Moans

  • I have to go to the dentist in a little bit & most likely get a tooth pulled =(

I'm a big baby!! lol. I had a tooth pulled about 3 or 4 years ago & I had a really bad experience soo I'm nervous!

  • Hope everything turns out alright at the dentist! Ellen, hope you start getting some sleep. I can sympathize. Sunday nights always seem to be a rough night for me sleep wise. Maybe I need to be more active on Sundays?

My Monday moan is that I have conferences after school, the kids are going to be super wound up, and my puppy has his neuter surgery today. The bummer about the surgery is that we don't get to hand out candy. Our puppy is already pretty excitable and we want to keep him calm after his surgery. DH wants to put out a sign with our candy bowls. Man, I wish we had a secret camera to see who actually takes the amount we put on the sign.

  • I really dont have any moans this morning but I just wanted to say Ellen hope you can get some sleep soon!

Kristen good luck at the dentist...I had to get a tooth pulled a few years ago was petrified and it wasnt as bad as I expected

Elisha hope your puppy surgery goes ok!

    and happy halloween everyone Devil

  • H gets to sleep in today and stay home, while I'm about to walk out the door to go to a teacher's institute day.

Tonight I have to go get my first ever cavity filled instead of passing out candy to the trick or treaters. I love passing out the candy and seeing all the kids in costumes- it's something I was looking forward to doing. Plus I'm a little nervous about getting the filling- after 10 baby teeth pulled, 2 wisdom teeth and 3 oral surgeries you'd think this would be nothing but since I don't know what to expect...

To top it off, the students only have 3 days of school this week so they're going to be off the walls Tuesday- Thursday, and Thursday/Friday are parent teacher conferences so it will just be a lot of late nights this week.

  • My moans:

    - We have no power. Haven't had it since Saturday night. Tomorrow is likely the earliest it will come back on. It's like Hurricane Irene all over again - luckly MIL has power so we spent the day there and are sleeping at our place cause we still have heat.

    - I have a HUGE canker sore of the side of my tongue and it's KILLING me

    - My left eye has been irritated since this weekend. I probably shouldn't be wearing my contacts but my glasses need to be tightened so they are super loose and keep falling down my nose!

    - I'm tired. I don't know what my deal is...DH and I watched a movie yesterday afternoon and I took a brief nap during it. Then last night, I sat down after I showered around 7:30/8:00 and I was basically on and off sleeping until we went back home at like 9:45.

  • My Monday moans.....

I worked from 6:30 last night until 2 a.m. Ow. Then I woke up with a killer headache.

I also think I'm allergic to something here, and that's been kicking my butt for a few days.Ugh.

  • We have had no power since Saturday at 12:30 in the afternoon.  Most recent info I heard was possibly no power until Thursday!  School was canceled today, thank goodness, but I would be surprised if it is closed tomorrow.

I am sitting outside of a Starbucks do get WiFi.  Yes, it is starting to get a bit chilly.  But at least I could get online.  B&N was so crowded that I could not get online.

  • My moan is just that subbing is getting old really fast.  Teaching is fulfilling, subbing is not.  I just yell at teenagers to be quiet and do work all day. Today was particularly awful, just one good class out of 5.  And last period there was a guy who apparently couldn't do any schoolwork because he had a concussion.  Okay, well fine, but of course he distracted everyone else for the whole 45 minutes.  And he was super rude and talked back to me.

I just wish I could get a job and my own classroom so I can go back to being the cool teacher not the b*tch.

That is frustrating!  I've been there.  Hopefully the experience and connections will help you out!

As for the kid with a concussion, if it was bad enough that he could not do work, he should not have been there!  Parents just don't think!

See, I don't mind the day to day subbing when I could get jobs, but I think I enjoyed it because I always take the jobs with the younger grades! So they are always happy to see me and are fun, plus I don't have to do any of the extra stuff like parent teacher conferences and all the paperwork.

  • I like not having to deal with the paperwork, but I just wish I could get to know some of the kids better!

  • Thanks, ladies!  I finally slept last night. I laid down for a nap yesterday at 3,  and we had trick or treaters starting at 3:20!!   So the nap didn't happen.    I was so wired on Sunday... I think it was b/c I had a pepsi with real sugar with dinner!

Is this your first year subbing?  My district has 22 schools in it, and I found once I'd been subbing for a few months that I was primarily in 3 particular schools. Last year I knew all the 4th graders at one school, the 3rd graders at the second school and all the K-4 students at the third school. Once I started subbing, I was called back by the same teacher and their grade level colleagues a lot.
