another intro from a lurker...

Hello everyone,

I'm currently living in Denver, CO with my Guatemalan DH--I've commented a few times on here, mostly because I miss being abroad and feel more connected to your lives than the rest of the boards.  I've lived in El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic before moving back to the US while DH is in grad school.  So even though I'm not overseas, I'm jealous of all of you--and confident we'll be going abroad again... someday.  I've been enjoying living vicariously through all of you and learning a lot about going abroad as a couple/family--things I hadn't thought about whenever I just bought my ticket and up and left.  Anyway, I decided before I keep lurking/randomly posting I should introduce myself :)

Mia (chapinito32)

  • Welcome! We have several Americans here with foreign DHs, so you fit right in. :-) Even if you're in the US, a lot of the cultural / transnational issues you face are the same as those of us who are living overseas. I'm an American living in Germany with my German DH, by the way!

  • Hello again and thanks for all of the welcomes!  I'll not feel quite as strange posting now.

I really loved Central America and excited to move abroad again (someday)--El Salvador and Guatemala are both beautiful, even with their dark histories and realities, I can't get over the resiliency of the people, cultures, and communities I've gotten to know.  The Dominican beaches were great too--but my work situation was pretty bad, so I'm not really likely to head back anytime soon... besides, there are other countries to visit.

Thanks again and I look forward to "getting to know all of you" here :)
