...as an IN! After I explained the tax issues it turns out they are OK with me returning in December or January. So at least we get to stay here longer and save more money and I will hold down the fort in Tstan while DH interviews overseas. We will get to spend Thanksgiving and his birthday together, as well as Christmas.
For now the plan is to return to the US before the end of the year. He can be in the US starting Dec. 27, so we either go before that and he hides in Canada for a few days, or we just stay in Tstan until after Christmas and then go back together.
Also, it turns out that getting our dog back into the US isn't too much of a problem, so I'm happy about that.
As for moving expenses... they asked why I needed them because we had a furnished apartment and when I said, "extra baggage, personal items, toiletries, etc." they were like, "oh, well send us an itemized list." WTF?! I'm thinking of being passive aggressive:
1 large suitcase, approximately 30kg containing:
- 15 pairs of women's underwear
- 10 pairs of men's boxers
- 3 knee length dresses
- 2 bikinis
etc.
I seriously had to explain that here in Turkmenistan they don't sell things like contact lens solution, so you have to buy it overseas in bulk and that I had done that and didn't want to have to get rid of it all and lose all that money. I can't believe they have the balls to wonder why I need some money to move from Turkmenistan to New York for them. They also got pissy about saying I was given a choice to move, blah blah. Um, saying "we need you right away, when can you get here" is not really a choice unless you are trying to make me quit. Especially taking into account that you FIRED MY HUSBAND the next day.
I pointed out that I was also given a choice to move to Dubai. Along with 10,000 for moving expenses. They made it clear not to expect the same. Gah!
Re: An extra month and a half...
That is super frustrating!
We are still trying to get reimbursed for our moving expenses from July including our plane tickets that we had to buy 24 hours in advance ($$$) and two weeks worth of hotel stays from when H's HR refused to sign our apartment lease. So annoying.

That's so frustrating. But I'm glad you get a little more time in Tstan before you have to go back.
I am worried that if/when I decide to transfer back to the States, my employer will also say it was my 'choice' to live abroad and my 'choice' to come back to the States, so I'll foot the bill.
As you say, Jetur, it's not about the furniture really--most of that we would be okay leaving because it's just a few small and relatively inexpensive items. But for me it's more than even if I could cram everything into six suitcases, the thought of navigating that through the airport, even for a little while, makes me weak at the knees.
That's great that you get to spend more time with your H in Tstan and that bringing the pup home isn't a problem!
Frustrating about the moving though. URGH
