Verizon Fios

I am wondering whether those of you who have Verizon Fios have lost service because of the storm?  I'm considering switching from Cablevision to them.  We got power back on Sunday, but cable still isn't back yet.

Re: Verizon Fios

  • The problem with Fios is that it uses a converter box that relies on electricity.  So when we lose power, we lose internet, cable (not that it would matter with the TVs not working), and if the outage lasts longer than a couple of hours, the battery backup on the Fios box dies and we lose phones too.  The phones are the only thing that bothers me, although we do have our cell phones so I guess it isn't really that big of a deal.

Besides the electricity issue, we've never lost our Fios service at all, that I can remember.  I think the fiberoptic lines are actually buried in most places, which helps a bit.  We've had it for two years now and really like it better than Cablevision.  We used to have so many service outtages with Cablevision, it was really annoying.

  • I always had cablevision in the past, and now have Fios in our house for over a year. I have no complaints with Fios and would recommend the switch.

same here.  We haven't lost cable once in any of these storms (knock on wood).

  • We switched to FIOS too. I remember the last power outage we had we didn't get Cablevision back for about 5 days after our power was restored. That and the internet constantly being fucked made us switch. We've had it for about a year now and I would never go back to Cablevision. We had a Cablevision guy come to the door about a month ago and I chased him off our steps yelling at him - hehe.
