Anyone want to give me good gift ideas for my sister and her dog? The dog is less than a year old and it's easier to shop for her dog than for her, so I figure this is a safe route. She's medium-sized, if that matters?
If it's something good maybe I'll give it to DH's parents, too, since they have a new puppy. I suck at picking out Christmas gifts for most people.
Re: People with Dogs
Any specific toys? I really suck. I was thinking of getting a treat ball and some treats. Friends of mine rave about their Kong toys, but Sarah has one of those already.
Toys are faily personality dependent. Pug face won't touch rubber toys or any sort of ball type thing. She only likes soft, fuzzy, squeaky toys.
Kongs are great too, does sister's dog like the stuffing? Maybe more of that or other treats to go in the kong. They also make different shapes/colors, so if the dog likes her kong, get her another type. If dog likes to chase balls, I highly recommend a chuck it. No human effort, lots of dog exercising. I did get pugface one of these on a whim, and she (and MIL's dogs LURVE it). One end squeaks, the other end kind of honks. Super cute. (http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3681669&lmdn=Dog+Toys)
Also, what about a cute collar, leash, and harness combo?
Personalized name tag?
Dingoes?
Lord help me if I ever get a human baby, I spoil the canine enough as it is...
Brew, are those squeaky/honky things in your first post pretty durable? She likes squeaky toys but tears them apart really quickly.
I don't know what kind of Kong she has, maybe I can find out. She likes fuzzy squeaky things.
Our furbabies are sort of picky. Here's what they like.
-Jetta loves her KONG, to the point where I can't get out the peanut butter jar without her bringing it to me to fill.
-She also loves her "babies" which are basically just stuffed animals, but I don't usually pay the big money for the dog type ones. Just cheapy, fuzzy stuffed animals from garage sales or (when I can find them) the $3 ones from Dollar General.
-I get a bag of rawhide rolls from Sam's a few times a year (it's one of the only reasons we get a membership). 14 long ones in a bag for $10 and we chop them into smaller pieces so they don't get sick eating it all in one sitting.
-I also take fleece strips and braid them together to make tug ropes. Here's a link for what they are. Find a remnant or two and it's a great toy. http://www.etsy.com/listing/69114588/medium-braided-fleece-dog-toy-assorted?ref=sr_list_35&ga_search_submit=Search&ga_search_query=fleece+tug+toy&ga_view_type=list&ga_ship_to=US&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade
Hope that helps, and yes our dogs are pretty spoiled overall, but honestly, we love them, so why not.
A training type book might be a good idea too.. Just a thought.
Oooooh this is a fantastic idea, actually!
As far as treats, neither of mine really like hard crunchy stuff llike milkbones. I get them the soft bacon type treats.
Part of the good thing about the fleece ropes are that they are soft, pretty much indestructible (as long as they don't continually get to chew on them/eat them, like my Piper will with fleece) They also help clean their teeth.
Glad the training book was a good idea, I figured it would be something I might've used with a first dog that is under a year old.
I will check out the fleece stuff. I'm often hesitant to buy treats because my pets have been super picky about them, and I don't want them to go to waste. She needs a training book, honestly...that dog is sweet but badly behaved.
