Reflecting company merger on resume

How do I reflect a merger on my resume? Right now, I have two separate entries on my resume : 2009-present NewFirm, 2007-2009 OldFirm.

OldFirm merged into NewFirm on January 1, 2009.  How do I reflect this? My job duties are pretty much the same for both companies and I have worked for the same boss since 2007.  My job title is different.  I think the entries should remain separate but should I add a note in the OldFirm. description?  Like this?

2009-present NewFirm.

2007-2009 OldFirm. (now part of NewFirm)

ETA more detail: I would like to show some continuity in employment so it doesn't look like I changed jobs every couple of years.

Re: Reflecting company merger on resume

  • I would either combine and put under new company name or if kept seperate then each companies name.

No need to indicate merger on resume.

  • When my company was acquired, I put something like this:

Position, New Company (formerly Old Company)

I didn't want to have 2 separate entries when my job duties/title didn't change.

This. You can also use FKA (formerly known as) or FDBA (formerly doing business as) if you like.

  • This happened to me. I just listed it as the new, current name. It's never been an issue or confusing to my employers and I simply mentioned I began work for the old name company for x years before it was acquired by the new name company in the interview when/if they asked for me to discuss my work history.
