2 flu shots for 18 mo?

When Ava was a baby, the protocol was that babies got 2 half doses of the flu vaccine their first year, then just one from there on out. When I took Luke in for his flu shot last month, they told me that now they are recommending that kids up to 36 months get two doses each winter. I have never heard this anywhere else... is this was your ped. is suggesting too?

Re: 2 flu shots for 18 mo?

  • A little late to the game, but Ella is 18mths and only got one, I will say, I think the shot effected her a little more this time by getting it all in one. The next day she was running a low grade fever and just kind of sickly. I hope that helps. I almost wish we would have done it in two doses.
  • I called the office after reading your posts and seeing that no one else got a split dose. According to my least favorite phone nurse, the nurse that gave the shot gave me wrong info, and he didn't need two doses. She said several of their nurses were new and gave wrong info. I asked her if she checked his chart to make sure he got the full dose, rather than a half dose, and she said he got the correct dose for his age. It is just REALLY strange to me, since the nurse giving the shot was so specific about all kids under 36 months now needing 2 bc of the addition of the H1N1 vaccine, etc... It is just scary when you get misinformation about your child!! Good news is, no more shots for us!
