where do you find holiday dresses?

I am looking for something to wear to our vow renewal/legal wedding (which is... um... next week *gulp*), and I am not finding anything good online. Am I just looking in the wrong places (JCP, overstock.com, DressBarn), or are there brick-and-mortar stores I should be going to? I'm thinking of something like what one might wear to a holiday cocktail party.

Also, having not yet shed the baby weight (ugh), I am going to have to buy something plus-size, so bonus points for anyone with good "women's" resources!

TIA!!

Re: where do you find holiday dresses?

  • I've had luck with Macy's and Ann Taylor, and I like Lord and Taylor's selection for women. Congrats again - I'm so happy for you and your wife!

  • What about Nordstrom or Saks?  J.Crew might have something, depending on the size you need.  Look on ebay too.  I usually find a ton of "new with tags" dresses for when I need to go to a wedding or something.

ditto...especially Macy's and L&T. they usually have a great selection and Macy's is usually running some kind of sale.

Also, check out Nordstrom. Their sales associates are usually fantastic at helping you find what you are looking for and they also usually have well-stocked clearance racks.

  • i'd check out nordstrom and lord & taylor. filene's basement often has some of the same dresses that are at macy's or l&t.

and girl, you had twins so don't be so hard on yourself! best wishes on your upcoming vow renewal/wedding!

  • ditto Nordstroms.

And, use their personal shopping service! It is free and they can help you with dress, shoes, accessories, etc...

    Congrats again!

  • I would try Talbots Women's dept and one of the plus size stores like Lane Bryant or The Avenue as well.  The latter two might better fit the price range that JCP/Dress Barn are in.
  • Love the siggy pic!  Your twins are adorable.

I would also check out Nordstrom Rack or Marshalls/TJ Maxx - they can be hit or miss, but you never know.  Also, not sure what your style is, but the Limited just launched a plus-size line; they usually have some cute dresses.

  • Ditto the recs for department stores like Macy's, Lord and Taylor, and Nordstrom. They should have lots of options and things on sale.

  • Nordstroms womens department has larger sizes and they will find the size for you if they dont have it in store and ship it to your house if you want.  I bought a summer dress that I wore to two weddings !
