My husband and I were driving home Sunday afternoon. When we were at a stop light I saw a car with 2 people in the front seat and a little girl around 18 months old. The little girl was sitting in between the driver and passenger. I couldn't believe it. I decided that I needed to call the cops because if they got in an accident who knows what would happen to that girl. The dispatcher had us follow them until a cop could intercept. We went about 5 miles before the cop pulled them over. I was feeling a little guilty for "ratting" on them, but the safety of the child outweighed those feelings.
About 30 minutes after we got home I got a call from the police officer who pulled them over. He sounded mad and I thought it was towards me at first, but I sooned realized he was pissed at the guys in the car. He said when he pulled them over the girl was walking around in the back seat. He told me he gave them a hefty fine and a court date. I wasn't concerned with whether or not they got fined, I just wanted to make sure the girl had a safe place to ride in the car. The cop then told me that they had a car seat in the back seat. That pissed me off. I'm so glad I called. Their tags were from out of state and it was a little weird seeing 2 men with a little girl, but the cop said he ran their drivers licenses and nothing came up. Hopefully they will think twice before not restraining her in the car again. Some people...

Good call. I would have called the cops too. I have seen a few incidents of very young children in the front seat on mom's lap, no seatbelt, but it always happens when I'm out walking and I can't get a plate number.
I did have to call CPS on our neighbor's son (he has 3 young children) this morning. That sucked, a lot.
This! How ridiculous!

What did you have to call them for?
You absolutely did the right thing. Never hesitate when children are involved. We called the cops on people on an interstate that had an open container (beer) and a child in a car seat in the back seat. No idea if they were ever caught, but we just couldn't let it by.
I think it's great that you got a follow up from the officer as well. That helps to give you peace of mind!
GOOD.FOR.YOU!!
I can't BELIEVE that is happening and the sad thing is it's happening a lot more than we realize... idiot parents/guardians... ugh.
Again, good for you!!
