I want to make this for my MIL for Christmas. I have the board and the little chips that hang from them. My question is how to put the "Family Birthdays" text onto the board. Stencil, paint, decal, something else? I cannot freehand it and have it turn out well.
Re: Crafty girls, a Q
If you're not up to doing it by hand, you can order a custom decal like that from etsy I'm sure, if not you could get one from Uppercase Living.
Otherwise, here's what I do to cheat: I print out exactly what I want on a piece of paper, the correct size, font, everything. Then I take a pencil and shade the back side of the paper pretty heavily (opposite side of the design.) Then I gently position the paper over my object right-side up, and trace (using pressure) over the printed design. The pencil lead that you colored on the back of the paper will transfer onto the project when you stencil over it, leaving you with a pretty exact copy to paint on. Then the pencil should come right off on any spot where you don't want it.
That's adorable, by the way! Good luck-- please post a finished product!
1. I'd either make a custom request for the whole board to be made on etsy or
2. I'd make a custom request for something with a vinyl machine to make the letters for you etsy.
I love that idea!!!
You could print the fonts the exact size you need, cut it out of the paper using an xacto knife (or something similar), then tape it to the board and paint using it as a stencil. Looks awesome! Good luck
ETA: I would do the "FAMILY" stencil and let it dry before doing the "birthdays" stencil over the top.
I thought about these options but for #1, the Alchemy feature is no longer on Etsy, so I would have to find a vendor to ask for a custom product, which seemed like a lot of work, when it's relatively easy to make. I may end up requesting the vinyl though, but would that make the whole thing covered in vinyl? Does that q even make sense?
