Hello ladies!
I've lingered around TK and TN for a while now, so I'm not new per se, just to these forums!
I got married over 6 months ago after 6 years together and things are great! We're very happy in the relationship department. ![]()
So, hello.
Now for the job question.
Have you ever contacted a former employer about coming back to work for them? Or at least inquired in some way or another as a hint that you're interested?
How did you approach the conversation? We never see each other IRL, so it would probably be on facebook. Seems easy enough, just wondering what your experiences are.
A little background:
I am coming up on my one-year anniversary at my "new" job and I already know I don't want to be here a long time. Management is bad, we're not productive and I feel like I'm going in circles. I miss my old job. I miss my old coworkers. I miss a good work environment. I do not, however, miss the significantly lower salary, which is pretty much the only reason I left.
Thanks for any response, and I look forward to getting to know you gals better!
Re: Introduction & past job question
How much lower is the salary? Would your budget/finances be able to handle you taking a "significantly lower" salary?
1. I would not contact through facebook. Try to see if they have an email on the account or call the company to find out their work email.
I would simply say that you have realized this job is not a good fit for you and you were wondering if they still have a position available for you since you really enjoyed the company. I'm not sure if I would bring up pay right off the bat. Did you tell them that was the reason you quit there?
The salary when I left is 15k less than what I make today. We could afford it, we don't have many bills, but we are reeeally into saving right now for a loan down payment to build a house. I would hope to get more $ if I went back, but I'm not sure they want to pay as much as I make now.
Good point. I have their work email addresses.
I didn't tell them it was THE reason, but I mentioned my new job would be "more money" when I was giving them my notice. We split on pretty good terms, really. They liked me and have said they missed me but have also said they know I've gone on to "bigger and better things" so I'm a little hesitant about feeling like I'd be taking a step back, even though I personally don't feel that I would. It is a much smaller company (like ~20 people) and where I am now is 150+. I don't necessarily believe that working for a smaller company means I gain less valuable work experiences. (Long answer, sorry.)
Very good point(s)... thank you! I think I'm just having a weak moment I go through 1-3 times/week.
