Re: Moms and bumps come in!

  • Mine are mostly downs at the moment.

I'm going back to the doctor again today to bring in some forms for Gibson to try and get him medicated for his ADHD and anxiety. It's gotten a hundred times worse since last school year and I'm at the point right now that it's either medicate him, or send him to live with my sister for a while. I can't handle him telling me every day that he hates me and he wishes I wasn't his mom and that he wants to die. Ugh, this is such a horrible position to be in and I pray that no one else has to go through what I'm going through right now. Izaac is starting to act like Gibson now and it's like hell on Earth for me, especially since Russ is at work for another week still and I have been keeping what's going on kind of a secret from family right now.

I know that my parents and in-laws wouldn't be happy with me if they knew I was taking Gibson to get medication.

  • {{{hugs}}} Donna.  I think you're doing the right thing for your sons.  I can't imagine dealing with that - I'm sorry it's so tough for you and your family.

I've got a 'failure to launch' situation with my 21 year old daughter.  She flunked out of college, doesn't have a job, and totalled my car.  It's hard to get a job without transportation, but I just can't afford to have her on our insurance with her record.  She's not a bad kid, but is just spinning her wheels and needs to get her life on track.  I want her to get a job within walking distance (doable) and get some savings going.  It's very frustrating, especially compared to the other 3 kids who are doing well in college, working, and moving into adulthood.

  •  Wanderfullife - I'm so sorry you are going through this. Hang in there mama, it sounds like you have explored all avenues, so don't feel guilty for the medication route.  DH nephew ended up being medicated as well, and I will tell you it has made a HUGE difference in his actions.  Thinking of you.

Things are going well for the boys.

They had their 15 month appointmens and are meeting all milestones.  The pedi only recommends us to work on words more, especially with Zach.  Zach can say mama (I've only heard it a handful of times), but everything is dada.  Christian on the other hand, can say, mama, dada, no (while shaking his head), he tries to say hey Zach (sounds more like hey Za), green (Geeeeen).  It's scary to think that they are starting to communicate.

We have decided to put them in daycare 2 days a week.  This will help with exposure to other kids (which they are not great at right now), and have better interaction.  I am anxious, excited and nervous.  We are hoping to have them start the week after Thanksgiving.  Bonus, the daycare I believe we are going with already has 3 sets of twins, so they understand the importance of keeping them together, but also learning that there are other children to play with as well.

My biggest Aw is that Zach is starting to give what I call Loves.  He will come over and randomly give you a big bear hug, and sometimes will give you a big kiss.  It melts my heart every time he does it.  Christian will do it once in a while, but not as often as Zach.

  • We get lots of laughs and big smiles all day long, which is great. Still no sounds, though. I just want those giggles! Jackson is also big on standing. He can do it with just holding our hands now, so I'm not sure crawling will ever be in the cards for him. Tummy time is pretty short lived now that he learned to roll over. We've been working on sitting up, but his head usually throws him off. I think that's about all for now. We go for a 4 month checkup the Wed. before Thanksgiving. We estimate he's about 13 pounds right now, but that's from weighing ourselves alone and then with him to subtract. Holy porker!

Donna, hang in there. There's no shame in medication.

  • {{hugs}} Donna.  That must be so hard for you.  I agree with the others, there's nothing wrong with medication, and I hope that it brings both of you some relief.

  • Kats - my cousin's twins had their own private language when they were little.  No one else could understand it, but they knew what the other was saying.

  • Thank you all for the support, it means a lot to know that I'm not horrible for doing this. Hopefully it is the best thing for Gibson.

LesPaul, I remember not having my life together when I was a teenager. Maybe your daughter needs a good, hard reality check. That's what worked for me. As much as I fought authority, I'm glad I had someone who cared enough about me to kick me in the arse and set me straight. I hope you find some sort of relief soon.

  • I am sure i will not be winning any mother of the year awards but Preston got his first taste of candy. Let's just say he thinks suckers are heaven. We only gave him 2 (on separate nights) but he loved them. image

  • Myles just had his 4 month appointment his stats are pretty impressive for a preemie. He is in the 90-95%tile for everything, weighing almost 18lbs, and 26.5in in length, his head is just ginormous and is off the charts. He got his shots and he was pretty miserable for the rest of the day.

Myles can giggle, make connecting vowel/consonant sounds (agoo, ma, da, ba etc), is working on sitting, and loves to stand up. He sleeps on his tummy no matter how we put him down, and loves to smile at his mommy. He doesn't really like to roll over that much, but can do his pushing up like a champ. He has also started solids and so far he loves bananas but could take or leave cereal.

highlight of the week, Sully walked into the room while Myles was on the floor and Myles looked right up at Sully and smiled the biggest smile ever! I'm so sad I don't have a picture.

This is going on with my younger brother. He is the same age. No car, didn't have a job, flunked out of college, and no motivation. He knocked out his two front teeth passing out at a party, he was sober but had not been eating and only drinking energy drinks. My parents finally made him go to counseling which helped. I am reading a book for work called Parenting Teens with Love and Logic and they talk about this stuff a lot.  I don't know if it would be helpful for you or not, it gave me some new insight, but I also have never parented.  Good luck!

  • Donna. I agree, I think you are doing the right thing. I was diagnosed with ADD when I was 11 years old, the fact that you as a mother figured out and got Gibson diagnosed when he was young is fantastic. Obviously you have tried everything and you are now moving onto another method. The medications out there today for ADHD are great and are only improving. Vibes that you are able to find the right fit first try.
You are doing a wonderful job mothering your boy and you know what is best for him.

One thing my mom said a while back was that when I was on medication I tended to feel Happier. Hopefully that is how it goes with Gibson too.

  • Evan had his 2 wk checkup yesterday and his first vaccination. He did great! He is 8lbs14oz now (was 8lbs at birth) and 22.5in (was 21.5 at birth). He sleeps on us pretty much all the time, which gives us more sleep, but we know we've got to get him to sleep in his p-n-p or his crib. It's just hard when he's been crying and crying and he finally falls asleep. You don't want to do anything to mess it up. We're just learning as we go.

  • Edmund just had his 6 month checkup yesterday. He is now 27.5in long and weighs 16lbs 1.44oz. He is a tall skinny little guy being in the 75% for height and the 25% for weight. We have a post-op appt on the 14th for the surgeon to look at him. Hopefully everything looks just a great to him as it does to us and everyone around us.

I'm finally starting to get his sleep schedule back on the right track. Since surgery he has been really off and the last week it just got worse. I was going to bed at 4am because he wouldn't go to bed until 3am. My husband wasn't helping either because I was trying to slowly transition him back to his crib from his rock n play. We had him sleep in the rock n play after surgery because he didn't roll over in it and wouldn't rip out his stitches.

He is doing great on his milestones. I have a feeling crawling will be short lived if at all for Edmund. He can roll over but can't yet sit up on his own. He wasn't supposed to be on his belly for 2 weeks after surgery but we couldn't keep him off his belly. He has started teething but none have poked through yet.

He will have a repeat hearing test, meet with the ENT and start meeting with the speech therapist in January. It is common for kids with clefts to have some amount of hearing loss and need some speech therapy. I'm amazed that he hasn't had any ear infections or fluid in his ears because those are also really common with cleft babies.

This was taken yesterday after he got all his vaccines so he was really sleepy.

  • Donna, you are doing what is best for you and that is all that matters. If your parents and ILs aren't on board that is their problem not yours. They don't know what it's like. I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this.

  • Nothing too interesting with me other than shopping for some maternity pants because I'm afraid I'll wake up one day and nothing will fit!  I still don't think I have a bump but the last 2 days I have had a ridiculous amount of bloat.  It looks like I swallowed 10 litres of air in my lower AND upper abdomen so I'm feeling less than sexy.

I went for a blood draw on Monday for the quad screen since we weren't able to do the NT measurement.

Otherwise, the baby is resting comfortably on my bladder and making mommy less than comfortable.  lol  I have my next OB appointment on American Thanksgiving which works out perfectly since I booked that day off to do a Turkey Trot in Detroit in the morning and then hang out at a bar to watch the Lions game.  Appointment isn't until 2:15 so I'll be able to see some of the game.

  • Not much new news with me since my L&D scare. Baby Ryan is moving around ALL the time and making me get bigger everyday it seems. I had an ultrasound last week and got some cool 3D pics of him and I hit my 22 week marker yesterday :)

  • Wanderful-I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was in elementary school. I can clearly remember feeling much better overall and being able to focus on tasks more easily when I went on medication. My mom has said my social skills and confidence also improved and it helped with my test scores to the point the school offered to allow me to skip a grade since I was kicking a$$ in my honors classes. I'm grateful that my mom sought treatment for me since it allowed me to feel better about myself and helped me calm the eff down! lol I hope that helps you feel a little more at ease in some small way. I eventually grew out of my symptoms so it's not like medication even has to be a permanent solution.

  • Hi ladies!

Sorry for the late post, I only got back from my mom's house late in the afternoon and Darian kept napping so I took the opportunity to do some stuff around the house. He's still getting over his cold but I'm impressed how well he deals with being sick; he hasn't been extra fussy or anything really. He slept really well for the first two nights of his cold (7+ hours) and we thought that he was on the road to sleeping through the night, but alas, it appears that that was only an effect of him being sick. Sigh.

Anyway, I took another pic of him in his lobster costume on Monday night... see siggy Big Smile

  • Thanks sikes :) FWIW it was really difficult to get Darian to sleep anywhere but on us for the first little while too, but he's in the PNP every night and crib during the day now. They just need a little time but they gradually get more comfortable being on their 'own' .

  • Emmett is 16 months old today!  Time flies by so fast it's ridiculous.

He is a major climber.  We have our dining room chairs either laying down or in the living room because he uses them to climb onto the table.  And he is very persistent.

He's not much of a talker yet, but he manages to communicate in other ways.  He loves to grab our hands and show us what he wants.

It's near impossible to get anything done around here, but it's totally worth it :)

  • Steph - 16 months!  I think you need an updated siggy or at least a new pic for his aunties to see

  • Hey ladies! I realized I can get on here from my iPhone now so I may be around again more often!

Anyway, Noah is a big boy - 3.5 months and just over 18 lbs. he's about 27 in so he's long too. His 4 month shots are coming up soon. He's still sleeping really good, only wake up once around 4am to eat. He sits up on his own already and is trying hard to crawl. We are introducing sippy cup this month and some purees next month!
