Recruiters.

I interviewed with a recruiter for a position I was very qualified for and he wanted to send me to interview with the client but the price range was about $15,000 less than I was willing to take for the job so we had a long talk about what I was looking for, how qualified I was, etc etc etc.  He said that he didn't have anything at the moment but if anything came up would definitely call because my resume was great, I interviewed well, blah blah blah.

I was scanning some sites today and saw the the company now has a position that basically describes my resume to a T and within my salary range.  It was posted almost 7 days ago but he didn't call me about it.  Of course I called him and left a message but do you think it is odd that he wouldn't call me if a perfectly matched job popped up?

I thought the point of a recruitment agency was to get qualified applicants and match with good jobs/companies (and work with companies to find good applicants).

The recruiter also happens to be my neighbor so I know for a fact that he couldn't have forget I existed - I see him every day!

Thoughts?

Re: Recruiters.

  • There are good recruiters and bad recruiters. You may have just gotten a bad one.

Heck, I worked for a company that was being purchased, and our site was shutting down. I got a call from a recruiter 2 weeks before we shut down, asking if we were looking for new Quality Assurance people. WTF???

  • It depends on how many jobs he's working on, but we get emails everyday with new jobs so you definitely should have popped up on his radar.  I would f/u with him.  If he aleady sent your resume in, maybe he figured you'd be considered for the higher paying position as well.  I would keep on it though.  If he doesn't get back to you, find a new recruiter.

  • Maybe he's got some other perfect applicant lined-up for the job.

You can't cocunt on anyone else looking out for your best interest. Just apply. You clearly don't need a recruiter for this. Heck, you can call-back with a story if you really have to push for an interview.

Then why would he post it on a search website?

He called me today.  Turns out the job is for the company I have a personal conflict with so I can't even interview anyway!  BOO.
