WWYD

My parents are divorced. My dad has had the same girlfriend since before, yeah Klassy. My mom has had flavor of the week up until this past month. DS's first birthday party is next month. My mom keeps asking can she bring her boyfriend. 1. I have not meet him. 2. I don't think that is the place to introduce him to everyone? 3. Awkwardness since my dad doesn't bring his gf to my house. FWIW, my mom hasn't seen DS in months, so I am not going out of my way to meet this guy. Would you let her bring him?

Re: WWYD

  • I would say no, don't invite him. Tell your mom you and YH want the party to be close friends and family only.

I agree with MJ.  DS birthday party is not a time for her to introduce her BF to you and the rest of your family.

Add me to the agreement list.

  • I would just tell her that while you're happy for her (even if you don't mean it), you would like your house to be neutral territory for Luke's birthday so you're asking that neither your dad nor she bring their significant others. It isn't the time for starting catfights or showing off in front of the other person. It's about Luke and it should stay about Luke.
  • Thank you for agreeing with me :)

  • I agree with PPs.  I'm sure you'll have enough going on that you won't want to worry about that.  Even if he's laid back and the greatest guy for her ever, you'll still feel like (at least I would) you have to be extra nice, talkative, getting to know him, etc.  ....when you have other guests and your son to look after.  I'd suggest a dinner or something before/after the party.
