iPhone 4S Verizon vs. AT&T

We're about to purchase our first iPhones, and we are debating leaving Verizon for At&t.  I think it'll drive me up a wall to not be able to do voice and data at the same time with Verizon.  But I've heard mixed reviews about At&t's service.

I work near Pikesville, my husband works downtown, and we live in Lutherville.  Any reviews on the service in any of those areas?  Thanks!!!

Re: iPhone 4S Verizon vs. AT&T

  • We switched to AT&T before verizon got the iPhones.  We've had no problems!  I actually think AT&T works better for us.  There were several "dead spots" between our house and my parents (both in harford co) and we don't have those with AT&T.  In 3 years I have never had a dropped call.  I also think their customer service is better.
  • DH and I just switched to Verizon from AT&T (had iPhone 3GS and now have iPhone 4S). He works in Lutherville and we live in Westminster. Calls would drop all the time on his drive home from work. I work in Columbia and got poor service at work and at home with AT&T. For us, the change to Verizon has been so much better, but it definitely depends where you live.

  • Also you can do voice and data when you are on a wireless network with Verizon, just not when you are only on Verizon's network. (Ex: if you are at home and connected to your network at home, you can surf the internet while on the phone)We discovered this the other day, which was a happy surprise!

  • I really think it depends on where you are. For me, AT&T was terrible, I never had service around my house and Verizon is great but at my parents my brother (AT&T) always has service and I don't. Verizon gets better reviews on engadget and consumer reports for coverage and overall cell phone carriers.
  • AT&T doesn't have as good of coverage as Verizon, but I'm not a huge talker on my phone. I'm more of an emailer/app user so that's not a big problem for me. My phone calls don't last long enough to worry about dropped calls.

To me it's more important to be able to look something up on my phone when talking on the phone, or be able to still use maps/gps while on the phone, etc.

  • Thanks for the info, ladies.  We're going to poll neighbors and co-workers too.  I'm excited to finally be leaving the awful BB and joining the world of apps!

Def a good idea....  I think it really all depends on the phone, service provider, and where you live. I've had AT&T for a long time.  I have found that I drop more calls with my iphone than I ever did with my BB.  I just know where those areas are now and am aware it might drop when on a call.
