Hi all,
I've had a rough time cleaning my oven today, so I'm hoping someone can give some helpful tips.
When baking earlier today, some oil or something dripped through the oven grates onto the very bottom of the oven. I removed the grates, placed them in the sink, and scrubbed the bottom of the oven with baking soda.
That was a pain, but my real question is how to clean the grates themselves. They're so big, they don't really fit in my sink. I tried just wiping them with a sponge, but they're so big a bulky that water got everywhere. To make matter worse, I actually cut my finger during this whole process, so I really only have one good hand to clean with.
Soooo...what do you guys do? I'm not so much asking what cleaning product to use (although I wouldn't mind suggestions) but I'm wondering how to you go about maneuvering the oven grates so that they actually get clean, but don't drive you crazy?
Re: Cleaning the inside of an oven
Mine actually fit in my dishwasher...so that's where I usually clean them. I use a little bit of that powdered cleaner, Bar Keepers Friend (LOVE that stuff), on any tough spots.
Have you tried soaking them in a mixture of hot water and dishwasher detergent...maybe in your laundry room sink (or some other deep vessel, maybe a garbage can or something)?
I've done this before and it works very well! That reminds...need to clean OVEN!
