Looks like it's closing down for good after the holidays. I'm bummed - I used to get some decent deals there. Especially at the Downtown Crossing store.
Rock, how did the Running of the Brides go, btw?
Re: Filene's Basement
This subject just reminded me about R of the B too and I was about to ask about it, haha. I'm curious to hear all the details!
I miss Filene's, too. If for no other reason than they were a competitor to Macys, and I feel like Macys went way downhill when they left. Everything got overpriced, cheaply-made, and ugly.
This makes me so sad! It's the end of an era. And I feel like such an old fogey saying that.
So glad I got to experience the Running of the Brides at least once, even though I didn't really get the full experience. Sorry I neglected to report back! It's smaller than I pictured it being, and I'm sure smaller than when it was at the original Filene's Basement. Still, there were definitely hundreds of dresses left on the racks when my sisters and I showed up around 7pm.
My sister actually found one dress that we all really liked, but we decided she shouldn't get it because (1) it's the first time she's gone dress shopping and I think she should have more fun with that aspect of planning before picking the dress, (2) it was out of her budget and needed alterations, (3) the wedding won't be until 2013, and (4) the designer and style number were attached so of course I had to figure out first if she could get it cheaper online (sadly the answer is no)!
Here's a pic of the dress on the model. Much prettier in real life though and the sash at the middle and the lace overlay are a subtle silvery color. The sash straps are long and flow down to a short train in the back.
That is really pretty, Rock! I love the silver detailing.
(And I am a total anomaly, because I had zero interest in dress shopping. I went once. I did end up finding a dress I loved, but I also had one I would have settled for if it meant I didn't have to go again, heh.)
I, too, am not a fan of Macy's. I have had $100 in gift cards there for the longest time... I actually might run there tomorrow and see if I can find a pair of jeans.
That's really pretty. I love lace.
I wish I had spent more time trying on dresses, since that's the only chance you get. I only went out twice, found the dress I bought the 1st time but no one was with me so went back again and bought it the 2nd time.
