Dear Community,

Our tech team has launched updates to The Nest today. Thank you.

Note: This only affects The Nest's community members and will not affect members on The Bump or The Knot.

Would you go?

My former job has a fundraiser ever November (it's 11/4 this year). When I left, I had every intention of me and H going, enjoying some apps, drinking lots of wine/beer, supporting the cause, and loving me not having to work my asss off at it (I did a lot for this event in all the years I was there). I told the Events Manager to not forget to send me an invitation.

As I'm sure I've mentioned here, H didn't receive any financial aid or loans for this semester of school so we're paying OOP (UGH), so all "extras" in our budget were cut until he's done. I received an email from the Events Manager last week as a friendly reminder that we hadn't bought our tickets yet. I emailed back right away saying we were planning on going but had some unexpected expenses that will prohibit us from attending. I said we were sorry and had been so looking forward to it and that hopefully we would be able to attend next year.

Fast forward to today: she just sent me an email saying if I wanted to come down and "volunteer" (her quotes, not mine) on Friday, no one would mind at all. "You can hang out with us, help check in some folks/sell some raffle tickets and have hors d?oeuvres".

Would you go? 1/2 of me thinks it would be fun (and free) and nice to put on a fancy dress and catch up with everyone - the other 1/2 wants to spend Friday night on the couch with H.

Sorry this was so long. I'm a rambler.

Re: Would you go?

  • Hmmmm that is tricky. If it were me, I would probably say thanks, but no thanks. "Volunteering" and being able to eat the hors d'oeuvres would not be my ideal Friday night.

It's an hors d'oeuvres reception, so they're not denying me dinner or anything...and I will absolutely not go if I can't drink (I'm such an alky; it's ok, I accept it)....but yeah, I don't know.

  • I wouldn't go. Mostly because H would not be going with me and I'd have to work at the event. Even if it's not much work, it's still a little. I agree with shazzie, not my ideal Friday night.

  • I'm only comparing this to my own situation...

If it was me last year, and my old school (now current school) asked me to chaperone the prom...I would have in a heart beat. I would have loved to have a chance to hang out with everyone again and have a great time.

However, I was also laid off, I didn't leave by choice, so I'm not sure if I'd go.

I guess it depends on how close you are to them, and how much you see them now.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'm going to go - because I DO miss all those people and it will be nice to hang out. H is jazzed that he doesn't have to go, hahaha! I won't be working as hard as I would while still being employed by them...and I'll be able to have some booze. Win/win! Plus, BIL still works there so I'd be supporting him, too. Plus PLUS my current org and former org have a new partnership, so it'll look good if I go. Plus plus PLUS...I kind of want everyone to see how happy I am now! :P

    Thanks for your thoughts, everyone!
