AW: I'm getting a sewing machine!
I did it! I ordered a sewing machine! It's on sale at Costco, I've been wanting one for quite some time and I used to be pretty good at sewing actually - my parents owned a company when I was in 3rd & 4th grade that did various sewing projects like the labels/tags sewed onto Unionbay sweatshirts, Osh Kosh B'Gosh overalls, buttons on Levi jeans, etc. and I learned how to sew on an industrial machine when I was 8 and was actually pretty fast. Now, I can't even remember how to load the thread! Thankfully this machine comes with a DVD that (hopefully) will step me through it. And now I need ideas on a simple gift to sew friends for the holidays - suggestions?

you should!!!! isn't she a brand new baby? so you wouldn't even have to do it too big!!
Yup! Although I'd probably make it a little larger so she could use it for a few years at least.
I thought about aprons...I'm going to have to look for some sewing blogs now! Need to find tips and good patterns.

my currently-reading shelf:
i taught myself how with a travel sewing kit.
i now hem my own jeans by hand. i think they look pretty good! others can't believe i do it myself!
That would be helpful! Since I'm short and most pants need to be hemmed!
I won't hem my own jeans because the denim tends to be too tough/thick, but my mom did teach me how to do regular dress pants.

Tygirl - today or tomorrow, I'll send you some links o'stuff. I've got a Pinterest board with good sewing tips and when my brain is less fuzzed, I'm sure I can think of some of the sewing gifts I've done in the past that are pretty easy.
Pot holders have a plenty of designs and can be quite cute and simple or complicated. One of my first ever sewing projects was a mouse hot pad. Or you can do a quilt square and turn it into a hot pad.
Thanks, I'd love to see what links you have! I thought about pot holders for ease, but that was one of the party favors my BMs gave out at my bridal shower so many of my girlfriends who would use a pot holder, already have one.
