Baby laundry questions

FTM here and LO is due in 3 weeks so I'm getting all the laundry done and folded.  I'm using ALL and some borax but no fabric softener.  I think I have it down but I do have some questions for experienced moms out there please:

But if I really needed some fabric softener, can I use vinegar like I do with our clothes?
Also, what can I do for static cling?  Yesterday I washed and dried 2 blankets.  One was a homemade knitted one and it created soo much static!  I was actually having fun shaking it in the air and seeing tons of sparks fly!   But now I need to know that I'm not going to shock baby when I wrap her up in this beautiful blanket and what I can use other than fabric softener or sprays to get rid of the static.

THanks!

Re: Baby laundry questions

  • I don't normally use fabric softener (or dryer sheets) because I just don't find that we need it.  99% of our clothing is natural fiber, so I just don't get much static.  I also don't find that I need any 'softening' for my clothes.  That's just me though.  Some folks have success with vinegar.

When I do dry something synthetic, I will use like 1/4 of a dryer sheet to get rid of the static.

  • If you don't over dry your laundry it won't be so staticy out of the dryer.

Thanks!  I actually didn't realize that could be happening.  I think sometimes the clothes is still damp so I put it back on...maybe I AM over drying it.

  • For your clothes that hang, as long as they're not crammed together you can hang them slightly damp.
  • Ditto PP on the over-drying.

I almost always hang dry my LOs hand-knit blankets- they dry quickly and last much longer that way.

  • I usually take my DD's stuff out of the dryer and let it air dry, it helps with fading and also shrinkage. I found Carters and Kohl's stuff shrinks a ton!

Oh yes, you most definitely are. That knit baby blanket sounds like it's acrylic yarn - it was probably dry in about 5min. Man-made fibers dry a lot faster than cotton.

I use dryer balls, just the plastic kind you see in walgreens/walmart/target/everywhere, and they help cut down on static a lot too.
