Melbourne NYE?
So I'm going to be in Melbourne for NY - my bf and I are trying to decide on what it is we want to do. We've considered a hotel near the river, but because of the day, all the rates are sky high and we leave for a trip on Jan 5 so... probably not. Neither of us are big into bars for NYE ... Any ideas?

I live just outside of Melbourne, but I probably won't be too much help as we usually spend NYE with my MIL 4 hours from the city. I did do a search and found this site with a bunch of events for NYE. http://www.newyearseve.com.au/melbourne.html

There are free events too. http://www.newyearseve.com.au/melbourne-nye.html I don't know how close to the city your bf lives, but it might be worth it to get a cheaper hotel (as cheap as you can find considering the day), so you can enjoy yourselves and not have to worry about getting back to your bfs house.
I hope that gives you some ideas. Sorry I can't be a ton of help.
