Back from vet :,(

Well, it doesn't look like it spread to the chest but unfortunately now they are saying that it does not matter and we are only talking a few months to live.  Yesterday I heard 3-6 months, today I heard 4.

He is at the vets getting his leg amputated now so he will be rid of that pain for the time being.  When the cancer rears its ugly head again we will most likely say goodbye at that point.  The vet is going to give him meds in hopes of slowing things down so we will hopefully have a few months.

I hope to make these next few months as fun and loving as I can for my baby.  I went to target and bought $60 worth of toys...the good ones that he loves.  It is going to be SO hard but I HOPE that I am able to be happy and play with him and cherish EVERY second.

This is such a hard thing to go through....thank you all for your kind words.  I can't stop crying...

  • If I lived closer I would come down immediately and take a proper holiday picture of all of you together so you can remember these next few months for years to come. Find a good Photographer in your area, Rebecka, and have some beautiful pictures taken of your sweet sweet pup. They'll be worth every cent you pay for them.

So many hugs to you, friend.

  • Thanks Jeni, I think that's a great idea.  I will look for a photographer right away.  I am also starting to think of ideas for a tattoo.  Ideas are totally welcome.  Nothing too big or flashy, no dog faces.... maybe a neat  way to write his name......  He means so much to me.  I never thought I'd be one to get a tattoo, but I know this is one I will never regret. :'(

LOVE this idea!  I'm happy to hear that the cancer hasn't spread.  Maybe he'll be a miracle dog and you'll have several years yet with him!

Hugs and prayers to you and Bayou!

  • Ohhh no :(  I'm so so so sorry that you didn't get better news.

As a "silver lining" person, I hope that you can find some happiness in the fact that you got a fair warning, and can truly appreciate Bayou in the next few months, spoil the crap out of him, and say a proper goodbye. I can't imagine what you're going through, though, especially with him being so young. Hugs Left Hug

  • I'm crying right along with you. This is just the worse news...

  • You poor thing! I am so sorry that you are going through this, it really is so so difficult. Praying for your strength and the well being of your pup. He's lucky to have you to care about him and I am sure he knows how lucky he is!

  • I am so sorry to hear this! Hopefully the amputation will have a better outcome than they expect. My grandmother's lab was REALLY bad for a while with cancer, and my grandma was told he had a few weeks at most. They gave him some meds, the pain went away and he lived happily for another five months. Hopefully with them saying 4 months, he will have longer! Stay strong, and I really like the idea of photographer capturing the love you and your doggy share! HUGS!!!

  • My heart is breaking for you right now.  Hopefully the Drs estimated on the (very) low side of how long he will be around.  Just cherish the time you have left with him and spoil him rotten.

  • So sorry you have to go through this... hang in there and hopefully you can enjoy the time you have left with Bayou rather than being too sad (even though it's such a difficult thing to witness).  (((hugs)))

  • Make your time count.  Enjoy every day and show him know how much you love him!!!  Lots of photos with him and Gratia together, too!!  I know how hard this is.  We only got 2 days with Prince after getting his diagnosis so I'm thankful for hugging and laying with him before my parents took him in for the last time.  :-(

    Lots of hugs!!!

  • I am so sorry, I am seriously tearing up right now.  Hopefully he is able to enjoy his time, and not be in much pain.  I realize this was not cancer, but when I was younger the vet told my mom that her cat had about 2 months to live, and the cat lived 9 years more after that.  Hopefully Bayou can bet the odds.  But if not just know that he was so lucky to have owners that cared so much for him.

what about a tattoo of his paw print? i wanted to get one for my cat with his name underneath it.

  • I like the idea of the photo session!  Poor little guy, I'm so sorry this is happening.
  • I am so sorry, that is heartbreaking :(  Enjoy the rest of the time you have with him to the fullest. Sending big hugs your way...

I was just going to say the same thing.  When we put Prince down I contemplated getting a tattoo of a paw print with his name and 1989-2001 underneath it.  But one of my "friends" talked me out of it....
