custom closets?

Hi guys!

My wife and I just moved from Chelsea to Brooklyn where we have *much* more closet space than we had before... but the space is not being used very effectively. I've been researching companies that do custom closets for about a week and they all have horrible reviews on Yelp. Does anyone have a company they recommend, or done this without a closet organizing company, but just with a contractor? I don't want to use California Closets because they are notoriously over-priced. Any advice?

    My husband and I actually redesigned our living room closet using an Ikea Pax wardrobe system and just left off the doors. Ikea offers custom wardrobes in many different sizes and many different options for customization (drawers, shoe racks, shelves, etc.). We absolutely love it!

    We had ours done by a small company but i wouldn't recommend them - they didn't do such a great job.  We actually wish we had gone with California Closets because they may be overpriced, but we are thinking you get what you pay for. Ours were very inexpensive but it shows :-(

    My husband and I redid our closet last year with Easy Closets.  So far so good.  I would also recommend Ikea.  I purchased Ikea wardrobes when I lived in my studio.

    Would you PM me and tell me who you used? We are getting estimates from a bunch of small companies in Long Island and New Jersey and we have reservations about several of them. We almost signed on with one company in particular and then I saw their BBB grade was an F.

    Ugh, I honestly can't remember the name of the company - it was about 3 years ago and we looked at so many companies I don't even remember who we ended up going with.  But I was so non-impressed with them I sort of blocked them out of my memory :-)
