N was doing so awesome a few months ago. We did CIO at 11 months and after 2-3 nights he would put himself to sleep with minimal fussing and sleep all night.
Then his birthday came and I rocked him to sleep a couple of nights. Then he had his one year well-baby and she said his molars were *thisclose* (fyi still nothing!) to coming in so when he would wake up and scream we thought he was hurting so we'd rock him to sleep (this only took 10 minutes or so) and he was only waking up 1x per night so it wasn't terrible.
He's got a cold right now, but even in the week or so before that he has been impossible. He'll wake up anywhere from 2-4x a night and scream until we rock him back to sleep.
WWYD? I know he's still teething so I feel bad letting him cry (the bumps are very prominent right now) but last night DH and I took turns getting him to sleep and essentially he was up from 2-5. We'd spend 30 minutes rocking him, lay him down, and he'd sleep 10 minutes. Rinse and repeat. At 5am I finally brought him in our room only because I couldn't sit in that chair anymore and then he slept until 11:15. I know this is not good... for any of us! I hesitate to resort to CIO again, but maybe it would only take a night or two? The problem is that we don't mind rocking him to sleep in the first place... it's the middle of the night wake-ups that are getting to us. :-/
Re: BR: Sleep Help... again.
What would I do? Knowing the teeth are so close I'd dose with Advil 30 mins before bed (so you KNOW if he cries it's not pain). I'd then re-do CIO. He knows how to STTN and to self-soothe, but he's preferring to be rocked (hello, who wouldn't!). You have to re-instill the STTN behavior. I've heard that things like vacations can cause you to have to re-CIO.
I don't know how comfortable you are with either, but that's what I'd do.
Something else to consider. The time change is this weekend. I don't think that this would have impacted him for the weeks in the past but I've heard kid's sleep can get messed up so maybe deal with it until the time changes (Sunday) and then re-CIO?
You're right, Megan. I know that's what I should do but for some reason it's harder this time around! I think it was because at 11 months I was so sleep deprived & newly pregnant & I would have tried anything for a few straight hours of sleep. Now I'm starting to get mommy guilt about bringing new babies home in a couple of months so I'm trying to spend any extra time with him that I can.
Regardless, he needs to "remember" how to do this and we all need some sleep!
I think waiting through the weekend is probably a good idea though... I hadn't even thought about the time change coming up.
Our crazy, wonderful life
I would do this too...

Another vote for this... but I would use Motrin. My nurse friend told me it works better for teething but not as good on other types of pain, for some reason. So I'd use that and get right back on the CIO train. Good luck!
