Good morning ladies! How are you today? What are your plans?
QOTD: Besides being apart from your family and friends back home, what was the hardest thing to adapt to in the your host country?
Today I have class until 2, but I have break in the middle so hopefully I can go to the gym. Tonight I need to go to the grocery store, do laundry and homework. Tomorrow is no school, so I can sleep past 6! ![]()
QOTD: I really don't like that everything closes at 6 pm. In Geneva, things were open until 7 or so but here everything is closed at 6. It makes getting everything done impossible and makes grocery shopping on a Saturday, insanity. And nothing's open at all on Sunday....
Re: Good morning!
Good morning!
I spent my morning battling what I think is a return of morning sickness (second day in a row).
Finally I talked myself into working out because that seemed to make me feel a bit better during 1st tri when I felt sick. This afternoon I have to run a few errands, then work for the rest of the day.
QOTD: The hardest thing for me here is having to be so careful about what I eat and drink. I really miss being able to eat salad and unpeeled fruit.

Morning! We've got a friend coming over for dinner this evening and I'm making enchiladas, so at some point I need to go over to the market and buy some cilantro.
QOTD: Now I don't see that many differences, but I know at the beginning trash sorting and public transportation were hard to get used to. Now I tolerate the trash and love the transportation.
Good morning! almost Friday
. I'm just at work with nothing fun on the agenda.
QOTD: 2 things. 1-The accessibility of banks. They only seem to be open from 9-4 mon-fri. That's really no good to me at all. My particular bank only has branches in the city. I hate it. So much. 2-I miss being able to go to the grocery store and only buy the amount of fruits/veggies I want. Most items seem to be in prepackaged bags. But I don't want ?1.50 worth of green beans, I only want a couple. But nope, I buy what they tell me to.
Morning everyone! This week is not going so well. I'm super busy at work and our long weekend in Dubai from Friday to next Wednesday (M - W are holidays here for Eid) has turned into me working on Saturday and us only going from Sunday on - I may not even go at all. Not to mention the whole "desperately searching for a job" thing. There have been some bright spots, but generally I feel like the next few months will suck and I just want to fast forward to March when I hope we will have some resolution.
QOTD: No entertainment options. Not being able to speak to/communicate with 90% of the people here. Crappy internet. Basically, isolation from the world.
Morning!
Just relaxing at home this morning, this evening I'm working from 4-11pm. I really hope to see some world leaders today!
QOTD: Access to good restaurants for a reasonable price! Dining out here can be so expensive. I really miss good sushi, I've had no luck so far. I've also had a really hard time adjusting to all the paperwork. You have to keep everything, I'm not used to that. The French are always "dans les papiers"!
Good morning! W slept late this morning so I did, too. No big plans today. Maybe some cleaning later when W naps.
QOTD: The stores closing so early. Most close around 6 pm here, too.
Morning. Today is swimming day for D and I. I'll have to get him up soon to eat breakfast before we go.
Then I'm making some apple cinnamon muffins and packing for my overnight trip to Edinburgh. My first appointment with my oral surgeon in Edinburgh is tomorrow. Is it sad that I'm a bit nervous but also really excited?
QOTD: It was really hard for me to adjust to the weather. I'm used to proper seasons, and this cold/rainy/cloudy weather we have constantly is depressing. Also, everything closing at 6, the post office and bank closing at 4. Why do they need to close so freaking early!?
Good morning. Busy day at work for me. Plus I have to take off for a few hours for a further test/appt with my ob/gyn. Also leaving drinks for one of my coworkers who I'm pretty sad to see go.
QOTD: Lack of food delivery. After living in NY where we ordered in dinner more often than not, and pretty much EVERY place delivered, it was an adjustment to find out it was a fairly foreign concept here. I guess it was somewhat of a good thing, since it forced us (me!) to cook more, but we do miss the selection when we do want a lazy night.

Sorry to be so late on this - good evening all! Big change at work today, I got moved into my own office! It's pretty nice as I have two screens now so I can have two diff networks up at the same time. Also I have a HUGE bulletin board for my travel postcards. I only put about half up today, the other half tomorrow! Tonight, DH will work late, I will do some cardio and then we have soup for dinner! I made up a random recipe last night, so hopefully its good - kinda like minestrone.
QOTD: I agree with PP about the stores closing SO early, no restaurants having take out delivery, and I wil add one more: everyone works at the same time - i.e. if you need a package delivery then postman will come when you're at work, and if you need someone to fix your tv or internet - they also only come during working hours. You basically have to take the day off to get anything done
We're headed to the Maldives on Christmas Eve!
