I took these hair classes...

That is right, classes on HOW TO DO MY HAIR.  Because, well, it always looks like ***. My make up too for that matter.

Anyway, I learned how to use a round brush AND a hair dryer at the same time which is not an easy task but somehow I have managed.  I also broke down and bought a styling product they recommended - Sahag 3D. It is a volumizing styling gel - oh baby - this stuff works miracles. I generally do not like hair products because they make my hair greasy and lifeless but....damn!!! I got some body going on and I don't really have to put forth much effort - it.is.fantastic.

Now I am working on the make up bit - I need a decent foundation - should I go to sephora to have them make me up?  Are these people actually trained? I don't want to look like a tranny.

Re: I took these hair classes...

  • I would *not* recommend Sephora. Any time I've gone there for advice, I've walked away feeling like they had no idea what they were talking about. Go to Dillard's and try your luck at the MAC, Clinique or Bobbi Brown counter. I've had good luck at all three, and in general, they seem to be more on their game than anyone at Ulta or Sephora.

  • No help on the foundation part- I'm on the hunt myself.  But, I have to say, those hair classes sound like fun.  Did you take them at a local beauty college?
  • I have considered hitting up the Bobby Brown counter at Balliet's......I might try that. I used MAC for awhile but it made my face break out and I didn't feel like the color lasted all day.

Ostate - I went to a class in Dallas, actually. It wasn't really a "class" as much as one on on instruction.  The hubs kind of sprang it on me last minute so my feelings were a little hurt but really, he has had to listen to me complain about my hair the past six years so I don't blame him for doing something about it.

I bet a local beauty college would do it!

  • Where did you buy the Sahag? I could use some volumizing help and I don't think I've seen that at my salon.

As for makeup, I'm cheap and rock the Cover Girl, which I don't think is what you're looking for.

I will say tinted moisturizer will give you coverage and look more natural and less tranny-like than foundation.

I bought it from the one on one instruction guy - Alexander is his name.  I had never heard of it either and when we had our first class, he kept pitching it to me and I was really annoyed.  But when I left my hair was so full of body and didn't feel gross - I couldn't believe it. The next day, it was still wavy and full of volume, all I had to do was brush the ends a bit and used my fingers to give it some oomph at the crown and voila!  It looked ridiculous.  The third day I pulled it to the side (again did not brush it), gave it a little oomph at the crown and....still ridiculous. This shiit is a miracle worker!

I tried using it on my own for two weeks but couldn't get the same amount of volume so when I went back we worked on putting product in my hair.  I am getting better but it still doesn't look quite as good as when he did it.

  • As for foundation.... Sometimes you will luck out at sephora with someone that knows their sh!t but it helps to have a little know how before you go in there. As far as mall counters go, I'd try MAC again and tell them your issues that you had last time, or Clinique. I love Bobbi Brown, but the only foundation from there that I had experience with was less than I would expect from her stuff. In fact, I really hated it.

Hair classes are a really good idea! Round brushing and blow drying are tricky to master for yourself but once you get it down, it makes all the difference as far as home styling goes. Let me know if you need some tips or anything if you don't want to go to Dallas to get them! ;)

  • I am really intrested in this hair product your talking about.

For make-up I am a bare minerals whore. I hardly ever have a break out and I am very bad about not washing my face every night and it doesn't dry my skin out. Another plus about BM is the little jars last me 3-4 months so it makes it worth the money.

I used BM forever and ever but it doesn't provide me enough coverage now. I have a little bit of hyperpigmentation on my upper lip and forehead so I need something a little bit heavier to cover it up.

I might go to Wally World and buy some cover girl. Part of the reason I hate make up so much is because it is so freaking expensive...I think Lancome makes cover girl, right?

  • I like going to Ulta--I've had pretty decent luck in there as far as people knowing what they're doing. I had a bad Sephora experience once, and also a bad Estee Lauder counter experience (and two MAC experiences, one good, one bad... never good when your husband says, "You look like Cleopatra."). But I always seem to luck out at Ulta for some reason.

For eye shadow, even though I don't have it (yet), I highly recommend the Urban Decay Naked Palette for eyeshadow. There are tons of YouTube tutorials about using it too.
