What are your favorite phone apps?

I'm pretty sure there has been a similar post about this in the past but I didn't have a smart phone so I wasn't paying attention. But now I am the proud new owner of the HTC Evo Design 4g and I think I've fallen in love.

So, I'd like to know. What are your favorite apps and why do you like them?

Also, is there an app that lets you have an easy view of your favorite contacts (or the ones you call most) so I don't have to search for them everytime I want to call them?

Re: What are your favorite phone apps?

  • Here are my favorites:

    1. Evernote - OMG, this app is what I've been waiting for my whole life. It lets you organize lists and group them. You can access them from a desktop application or on the web and it automatically syncs. You can also share your lists with others. I'm trying to get my DH to get a Smartphone. That way I can share his "To Do List" with him. LOL (poor guy). I also do my lists for different stores (Trader Joes, Home Depot, Costco, etc.) and I'm using it to research potential houses for our vacation next year. Anyway, it is great.

    2. Amazon - You can scan in a barcode while at a store and it will jump to the product so you can see the price and read reviews.

  • I have these all on iphone, so not sure how much will translate for you!

Epicurious. All the recipes from their site, though you have to pay to sync your favorites with the web version.

    Redfin. We are eternally househunting.

    FB. Obvs.

    Tapatalk. You probably know this.

GReader. The mobile version of Google Reader.

    Pandora.

Words Free (Words with Friends). Pretty much the only phone game I play, even though I suck.

TVGuide. Because I'm really somebody's grandma and I have to know when Wheel of Fortune is one.

Gorillacam & Instagram for photos. I take with Gorillcam because it does a burst of three shots and then "edit" in Instagram.

DCRider. For the moments that I'm in between two metro stops and don't know which one is quicker. This could replace your laminated map!

    Blogger+. Blogging app.

SmugShot. This doesn't work anymore for me (maybe it will when I upgrade my system), but when it did it was awesome. If you use SmugMug, you can upload phone pics with it.

  • I have a bunch that I use a lot (all on iphone, sorry, I don't know if they translate), but these are a few of my faves:

     1. Netflix (if you have a Netflix account, you can watch streaming movies or tv shows anywhere).

    2. Moviefone (for checking out movie times, reviews, etc.)

    3. Soundhound (for figuring out who sings that song on the radio and giving a link to buy it from itunes)

    4. AroundMe (it lists shops, restaurants, clubs, etc. that are near your current physical location, with reviews and links)

    5. Zappos (it has video reviews of shoes.  It's essentially shoe porn).

    6. Spendfree (I keep track of my budget - I have to keep an extra careful eye on the shoe budget after getting the Zappos app).

  • I also have an iPhone:

Fandango for movie times - although I rarely use this since bebe. :-(

    OpenTable

Kayak - searches all airlines for best flights - helpful when I'm dreaming about going somewhere exotic.

EveryDay food recipes - I get the magazine but this is a nice app with easy recipes (usually 30 minutes or less) with few ingredients that I've used to throw a dinner together. You can enter in ingredients you have and it'll pull up something.

GasBuddy - shows you where the cheapest gas station is near you - very handy when you procrastinate and realize you need gas when you're on the go somewhere.

Shutterfly - I keep my online photos on their site and you can upload iPhone photos to your albums stored there which is handy since most of my photos of DD seem to end up on my phone nowadays.

    Pinterest - amazing time waster

Discount Piggy - really helpful when you're at a store and something is on sale for a weird discount - like 15% off - and you want to calculate the final price.

    Zulily - see Pinterest

DirecTV - only useful if you have DirecTV obviously but I like being able to record shows remotely since I always forget.

NPR News - you can listen to the live stream as long as you have a cell connection.

Groupon/Living Social - stores all your purchases, which is handy since I sometimes tend to lose the emails.

Ziplist - This is a shopping list/recipe site which is awesome. I've taken to storing all my recipes here and then you can automatically add the ingredients to your list - it'll prompt you to delete the ones you normally have (i.e. salt, pepper, olive oil) - and then adds it to the appropriate aisles which you can adjust based on your store's layout. DH can sync to it on his iPhone which is great since I do the meal planning and he does the shopping. You can also email or text the list to someone.

  • Thanks ladies. I just added a bunch of those to my phone.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately since it's a time suck), I don't see an app for Pinterest on the Droid. That is one of my favorite websites.
