**Morrigan** (& other "dog people")

My bff has a golden retriever who is very prone to ear infections. Her vet told her to just keep them clean and treat as necessary, but she thought she remembered hearing/reading something about how switching to a different dog food could help.

Any thoughts?

Re: **Morrigan** (& other "dog people")

  • I'm not sure about dog foods, but I know that giving your dog a daily tablet of brewer's yeast can help with ear & skin conditions.  I'm not sure about the details (i.e. dosage, how it helps, etc.) as I've never had to use it for my dogs, but my SIL gives it to her dog daily on the recommendation of her vet, and she said it has helped a lot.  Might be something for her to look into.

Thanks! I'll pass that info on to her for sure. :)

  • I would try a grain free dog food. We do taste of the wild. One of my dogs was very itchy and grain free stopped it. Good dog food is more money.poor puppy.

ETA: I know corn is a big issue with a lot of dogs, and it is in a lot of the cheaper dog foods. I have also heard that a lot of goldens have issues with chicken, but usually that shows as tummy issues.

  • Thanks! I'm going to tell her what you both said and hopefully something will help. :)
  • Another grain free food is Blue Wilderness (made by Blue Buffalo, which isn't grain free). We feed it and have had no problems :)
