Occupy Wherever

I don't know what the Occupy groups look like in other places but Occupy Capitol Park is an effing joke. They don't even have signs or stand by the road. What they are doing is camping. That's it. How is camping in a local park going to get anything accomplished??

What an eye sore.

Re: Occupy Wherever

  • I haven't seen any of the groups (I'm sure you're all shocked that nobody wants to Occupy New Gloucester.), but even if they were the best protesters around, I don't think they're going to have much of an impact protesting in Maine anyway.

Although, I don't think I really understand what they're trying to accomplish camping in the park to begin with.  I mean, I know what their "thing" is, but I don't understand exactly what their demands/policy change requests are.  Besides the right to camp in parks, I mean.

This is where I'm at right now. I certainly understand that they have the right to protest, but I'm not sure what they think can happen to result in change. Having a clearer message of what they want might help me think they are after more than just camping (and freezing) in various cities.

  • I was just thinking the same thing today! The first few days they held up signs, but I haven't seen on person in a couple weeks. You are right, it is such an eye sore.

  • There were a few standing by the road after school today but definitely down in numbers from the previous weeks. I'm just glad that the construction is done so less people are forced to read their signs while waiting for the flaggers. Maybe that will motivate them to move on?

  • LA is a strange city in that no one ever really spends time there. So the occupy people camped out actually give downtown LA some life.
