Powder Post/Wood Eating Beetles
We just had our home inspection and discovered extensive evidence of powder post beetles in the lovely wooden floors and basement of the house; shotgun style holes that show where the bugs ate their way out of the wood. The house is about 100 years old, so we do not know if the infestation is active or not, and exterminators will not give us a quote without an inspection (we don't own the house yet, so, no inspection...)
Has anyone dealt with powderpost beetles? How much did it cost? DH and I will surely foot the bill since this house is a short sale.
Kayla
Re: Powder Post/Wood Eating Beetles
Thanks, everyone...I was able to finally wrangle Orkin to send a man out to check out the house. Orkin had to have the sellers call and give their approval, first, but the inspection was SO worth having...turns out there is really not much proof that the invasion was still active, the damage to the structure is not too bad, and we can do some preventative treatment once we own the house.
The cost for preventative treatment (this also protects our wood from carpenter ants and termites, and it kills existing bugs and fungus) will be about $650. Not bad at all!
I can't say enough good things about the Orkin inspector-he was very professional and went above and beyond. He even crawled in the gross spots to fully check out under the floors. Would recommend them in a heartbeat...it was well worth all the trouble I went through to set up the appointment. And the diagnostic was free!
