Amazon is burying treasures... sorta

Has anyone else seen this Amazon Locker delivery service? This seems like it would only be awesome if Amazon Fresh didn't sell it and if you could get it within a few hours.

I tried searching for lockers near the addresses that I've had things delivered and I can't find anything.

Anyone used it? Anyone going to use it? Anyone find a locker near them?

Re: Amazon is burying treasures... sorta

  • that's pretty cool!  I'm lazy and just closed the window, do you get cheaper/free shipping or anything?
  • I don't think so?

I'm really confused by this service.  Why would I want to go pick up something from a locker when prime can have it delivered to my lazy arse the next day for $4 or in 2 days for free? Or Amazon Fresh can have it to me later that day plus groceries for free?

  • I'm guessing this service is for people who don't use Prime?  Otherwise I don't see the use.

  • yeah... although, I guess for some people living in apartments, it's a huge pain to have things delivered because if you aren't there (which you almost never are) they take it back to their depot (UPS or whatever) and you have to go pick it up.  We're pretty lucky that the front office is there and accepts all our packages, but this way you could get it in a more convenient place maybe?

I think none of that made sense :-/

  • Amanda - that's a good point. I hated apartment living for that reason.

Also, I guess it could also be beneficial if you're sending a gift and don't want DH/SO to find it on the doorstep first?

Ok, I guess it's not completely useless Big Smile

  • Fascinating idea. No need for it personally, since we have Prime and live in a house, but that would've been super-convenient when we lived in Cap Hill and our FedEx guy was a piece of sh!t who would claim to have 'attempted delivery' without ever coming to the complex's front door...

Also, ARGH AMAZON FRESH. They've FINALLY started delivering to our zipcode -- but only "limited service" and so not to our house! Goddamn it. I want grocery delivery service before the baby is here. *whine*

  • They are installing one at Bellevue College. My husband has been dealing with the company and they are being a pain. It is an interesting idea.
  • I could also see it being useful if you are ordering something valuable that you don't want sitting on your porch all day, or if you'll be out of town when something arrives.  Or if you live somewhere where theft is common, then it'd be good, too.

But the way the describe it on the site, it's like "Hey, we have this new thing that's more work and possibly more costly for you, how cool is that?!" and that's lame and confusing.

Yeah, I'm irritated at amazon fresh too. We used to have attended delivery as an option and they just took it away. This means I can't buy beer/wine any more.

Amazon Fresh is dead to me now.

Ugh, that really sucks. :( I'd be pretty annoyed about that, too! ^^ We don't buy beer or wine (we're liquor types, lol), but the idea of conveniently-delivered alcohol is pretty damn tempting.

ETA: Huh. So I was looking at their FAQ (hoping to find out when they'd start serving ALL of our zipcode), and found this for you:

    1. Do I have to be home to receive my delivery?

For a regular scheduled delivery, you should be home to receive and sign for your products; however, we are offering exciting unattended options called Pre-Dawn delivery (before 6:00am) and Doorstep Delivery (7:00-10:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., 3:00-6:00 p.m., or 6:00-9:00 p.m.).

     and

    23. Can I get beer and wine delivered to my home?

AmazonFresh offers beer and wine for attended home delivery. You must be present to take delivery of the beer and wine. If you appear that you might be 35 years old or younger, we will not deliver without a valid picture identification, such as a Driver's License, Passport or Military ID. We will also not deliver beer or wine if you appear intoxicated.

If we are not able to deliver the beer or wine, we will cancel that part of the order and not charge you for the items.

So it looks like you CAN still have them deliver booze and sign for it??

Yep, only with attended delivery though. That's a 1 hour delivery window and they take away the totes.

They took away the attended delivery option for me. I can only get things delivered with a 4 hour delivery window, and they just drop them off on my porch and I give back the totes the next time I order.

Since there's no one to check my id/have me sign for the alcohol I can't order it. Crying

  • Boooooo! *comfort* That really sucks. :( I'm sorry!
