Well, this has been fun

We're having people come in to give us bids on painting, electrical work, and some handyman jobs. So far:

1. Of the 2 painters, one didn't have VM when I called him. So I couldn't reach him at all

2. Of the handymen/electricians, 3 haven't shown up even though we confirmed a time.

I got all ready to meet a handyman at our house at 9 this morning, and I'm still sitting here alone at 9:22. We'll see if our 10 o'clock bothers to show.

And this rate it's going to be REALLY easy to narrow down who to use!

  • Ugh, that would drive me insane.  This is why I don't think I could ever live in a fixer-upper; I don't have the patience to manage the project and deal with lazy/unprofessional subcontractors.

What do you need to hire painters for anyway?  Aren't you the painter extraordinaire??? :)

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • I don't get that.  We had similar issues when we were trying to get someone to do a few small things around the house.

We need someone to do the downstairs entryway and up through the stairwell. I may like to paint, but I'm not risking life and limb to paint over my stairs. The rest I can handle. As a matter of fact, I'm painting bathrooms all day Saturday :)

  • We've actually been pretty lucky with the contractors we've had to work with (we did a LOT of DIY though).  The worst one was the plumber who was supposed to do our upstairs bathroom - he came and did the first half of the job (new pipes for shower/tub, added plumbing for second sink) and then when we were done with installing everything, he was supposed to come back and hook everything up but he never came.  We gave him like 3 chances and finally just found someone else.  We had only paid him half the money too, so we figured he'd come back, but he always forgot or claimed to have a hurt finger or something.

  • Today's fiasco was DH's fault for not writing things down. The 9am guy is for tomorrow and the 10am guy was actually 1pm. And he showed up :)
