BR: Help w/ Infant Outerwear
It's starting to get cold here and I need a winter coat for LO, but I'm not sure what to buy. He' was 8 weeks old yesterday, so a long way from walking/playing in the snow.
What do I need?
Snowsuit?
Heavy jacket?
Mid-weight jacket?
All of the above?
ETA: I'm in the DC area. We get cold winters but not as bad as some of you.
And where do you buy these things?

Re: BR: Help w/ Infant Outerwear
Jane wore this last year and I loved it. She was older than him but not mobile. You can make it into a bunting (think nightgown bottom instead of legs) if you want, but can do legs for the carseat! It's very warm but it's fleece so, again, good for the carseat (they aren't supposed to wear anything like down feather in the car seat). Also, the legs and arms have little flaps that fold over feet and hands (no mittens) or can be folded back if they need their hand.
This was seriously the best thing ever, in case you can't tell how much I loved it, LOL.
ETA: we also had a Bundle Me which I know some people are OK with and others not.
I like that. How does it run in terms of sizes? Small? Large? Long? C is 9 lbs 8 oz as of this morning and at that price I would like it to last all winter but not be super huge on him now. So I'm not sure 0-3 or 3-6 months.
My sister has the same thing as Naylon. I found it for her at Ross and paid 9.99. It is Carter brand and very nice. If you have a Ross, check it out you might be able to save tons.
ETA: In terms of sizing, my niece is 9 weeks and just hit 10 pounds. She is long and thin. She got a 0-3 month and has plenty of room to grow.
I am 45 minutes south of DC, so I am close to you location wise. Since Tessa was born in December we used a fleece jacket from Old Navy and then a Bundle Me. It seemed to do well keeping her warm and the Bundle Me goes over top the infant carseat so you don't have to worry about him growing out of it. We just bought my sister this 2 pc Carter's pram http://www.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=1cb4a82&deptid=70676&dep=BABY&catid=81618&pcat=BABY&cat=baby+boy+0-24+months&NOffset=0&pcatid=70676&Ne=29+4+5+23+1031+8+18+904+949&N=4294934035+4294966976+4294961599&SO=0&cattyp=RLE&Nao=0&PSO=0&bcCat=3&CmCatId=70676|81618
for her little boy that's due this winter. The outer part has a hole in it to feed the car seat straps through if you decide to leave it on with the inner suit.
Hmm. If you go with this one the North Face site says 0-3 is 10-15 lbs. I'd probably get the bigger one just to be safe since it's only early November. Also, as he gets taller you can just let his feet dangle out if needed (by the end of the Winter janie was getting tall for hers and that is what we did). It's hard 8 mos is young and he's tiny. You might get buy this year just doing a bundle me. I needed something that she could wear at school and on walks with me (and by last winter she was out of the infant seat).
Our crazy, wonderful life
We used this too, and out here in CO it gets cold.

This of us, too. Jackets are a PITA, I am seriously missing the convenience of the cozy cover now that it's cold again! We always did a hat, a blanket over her, and the cozy cover zipped up and she was super warm and cozy in there. Plus, the cozy cover is safer than using jackets due to the whole seat belt/jacket compression thing.
