ettm: applicator free tampons
so i got a bunch of free ob tampons from coupons over the last few weeks--
i don't need tampons right now for obv reasons--but i've tried applicator free before and they are just weird. tbh, it's been over 10 yrs since i last tried it, so maybe they are different now?? i'm contemplating keeping them and trying them again when the time comes, or just straight-up donating them to a womens shelter.
does anybody use them? what makes them better than my snooty tampax-pearl?

i can't use them. i like kotex. lol.
It's been a long time since i used a tampon (i use a menstrual cup, which is 1,000x better than the best pads or tampons), but when i did, i used applicator-free tampons. I could get the position right, i think b/c with a different shape than the applicator kind they just fit better. They are also a lot smaller, so easier to carry a bunch around (i have really heavy flow). A bonus is that there is a lot less waste.
ETA: If you aren't excited about them, then def. donate to a shelter.

W uses them. As does my gf before her, and my gf before her.
I think travel convenience is part of it, but not sure what the other parts are. And, I'm probably not going to ask any of them

I've always used Tampax. Non-applicator tampons weird me out.

Ditto this exactly. I've used a DivaCup for nearly four years now, but before that I used O.B. starting around age 16. They always worked so much better for me than tampons with applicators, and I loved that I wasn't creating even more waste.

Here are my thoughts on it, but be forewarned re: TMI.
I always used to wear a tampon and a pad to bed, and sleep on a towel to protect the sheets. In the time i've used the cup (~ 5years) i've only had one overnight leak. One.
And it's comfortable.
I also like that it can be emptied as frequently or infrequently as i'd like, including when i am expecting my period, or on the last day when i'm not sure if it's sticking around. This is unlike tampons, which i always felt i was guessing about (absorbancy, timing, "fullness").
I use a diva cup because it was available locally, but there are lots of other brands (lunette, moon cup, etc.). I think some are made from other materials, but this brand is silicone. It is inserted similarly to a tampon, then emptied every 12 hours (or more for heavy flow). It holds much more than a tampon, so even for women with very heavy flow, it needs emptying less frequently. It's removed similarly to a tampon as well, except that nothing is external. Once you get the hang of it, it's not messy (though can be at first). After emptying it into the toilet, it gets rinsed (or washed with a special cleanser; hand soaps tend to lead to yeast infections) and reinserted. Then washed and sanitized at the end of the cycle.

this intrigues me. i've heard about them before, but didn't know anyone that used them. when you pour it out....is it liquidy? my "waste" is normally all absorbed, so TBH, i don't know how liquidy it really is....because sometimes it comes out (TMI) like discharge..and sticky ooeygooey. i don't think i can handle the "pouring".
